Position: Director of Development
Job Classification: Exempt
Reports to: CEO
Purpose:
The Director of Development will be responsible for developing and overseeing fundraising strategies, development initiatives, and operations to support the overall development and revenue objectives for HFHQC. This individual will be responsible for building relationships with current and potential sponsors, attending community events, developing grant proposals, and assisting with marketing initiatives for the affiliate.
Job Duties:
Fundraising
Sponsorships/donors
· Build relationships with current and potential sponsors, meeting with a minimum of 2 sponsors per week.
· Educate current and potential sponsors on HFHQC’s mission.
· Make asks when appropriate with sponsors.
· Establish a cadence of regular communication with sponsors, updating them continuously and timely on projects and organizational progress.
· Create new opportunities with sponsors/donors by cold calling.
· Join a civic organization (one in which we are not currently involved in) to expand social network while keeping in contact with community members and potential donors.
· Attending at least one community event (Chamber, QC homebuilders) per month. Following these events, reach out to new contacts met via phone call and/or personal meeting.
· Provide personal thank you’s via phone call and handwritten thank you notes for sponsors who donate $500 or more.
· Represent HFHQC at important community events as requested Research and develop grant opportunities. Stay on top of grant due dates and submit grant by due date.
· Attend check presentations-public announcements (make CEO aware of these dates).
Fundraising Events
· Organize, plan, and develop HFHQC’s two primary fundraisers: Annual golf outing and Build a Dream.
· Send out “save the dates” for two primary fundraisers well in advance.
· Provide written requests and personal phone call follow-ups for donations for events.
· Establish deadlines for fundraising events and provide detailed updates in staff meetings.
· Following fundraising events, complete all thank you’s and ensure any outstanding bills are approved and paid.
· Coordinate other fundraising efforts sponsored or held by other entities on our behalf.
· Create an annual appeal letter and mailing list and have this mailed out by early November.
· Serve as leader and liaison for Birdies for Charity, Federal campaign, and other community fundraising opportunities.
Other
· Create an annual fundraising plan with goals.
· Create committees to assist with fundraising events to help achieve fundraising goals.
· Notify sponsors and media of upcoming groundbreakings & dedication dates
· Lead dedications/groundbreakings and greet /thank sponsors, donors, and volunteers.
Marketing
· Create monthly e-news.
· Create and distribute press releases – follow up with personal calls as needed to encourage coverage.
· Keep website updated.
· Keep Facebook, LinkedIn, and any other social media platforms current.
· Create an annual report by March 1st of each year.
· Create flyers and other marketing materials for various HFHQC events.
· Conduct public presentations to educate the community on our mission and programs.
· With CEO, plan special events to celebrate milestones.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· High School Diploma required, bachelor’s degree in social work or related field preferred.
· 2 years’ experience in the non-profit/social work/human service field required.
· Strong accuracy, attention to detail and financial aptitude
· Proficiency with QuickBooks
· Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to plan and coordinate work independently balancing multiple work demands in a fast-paced environment.
· Ability to analyze data and provide well thought out suggestions.
· Strong problem-solving skills.
· Ability to exhibit integrity in work product and in interactions with clients and other staff.
· Ability to hold oneself accountable for actions, successes, and failures.
· Ability to be flexible in the work environment and willing and able to adapt to changing organizational needs.
Physical Requirements: Primarily sedentary work, exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally or a negligible amount frequently.

Work/Environment: Moderate noise level consistent with an office environment. Travel within Iowa/Illinois and other states as required for business meetings, education events, etc.
Personal/Physiological: Interaction with people, working around people, delegating work, and holding oneself and others accountable for meeting deadlines and finishing work, planning of activities, making judgments on a regular basis, frequent changes in duties and volume of work, intra-organizational and client communication.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
