SUMMARY: 
Hachette Book Group’s Children’s Subsidiary Rights department is looking for a Subrights Assistant to join the team. The Subrights Assistant will be responsible for providing support to the Subrights department and will report to the Director of Subsidiary Rights.
 
The role is NYC based; HBG's current hybrid working model is three days in the office per week. 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Processes a high volume of production file requests from domestic and international publishers
  • Sets pricing for digital files and handles invoicing and payment tracking/chasing for file fees and advance/royalty payments.
  • Answers general rights queries and material requests as needed
  • Provides production schedules for UK and AUS partners
  • Point person for all cover/ marketing material approvals and communicates with publishers, authors, agents and editors to facilitate
  • Handles educational permissions and licensing requests and works closely with educational domestic rights agent to upload and feature HBG books on Mosaiq platform – with oversight from Manager and Director
  • Handles quotes and order fulfillment for Junior Library Guild
  • Helps to prepare rights guides for international book fairs
  • Assists with entering of deal memos and tracking/chasing of contracts.  
  • Registers visitors and assists with booking internal meetings for international clients
  • Evaluates acquisition material for potential in domestic and international markets (with guidance of Manager and Director)
  • Reads manuscripts and proposals and assists with writing pitch letters and backlist repomotes
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively while also ensuring accuracy of work and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to communicate effectively in both individual and group settings.
  • Prior publishing internship experience is a plus.
  • A strong interest in international rights and curiosity about world culture is a must!
  • Must be results-driven and take appropriate steps to achieve goals while taking ownership of situations as needed.
  • Proven ability to deliver timely, accurate work and demonstrate good follow-up and follow-through.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and an appreciation for the ideas of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team setting and to build supportive and constructive relationships within and outside of the organization.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and Outlook.

The compensation for this position is $47,500. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
