THE POSITION:
Under the direction of an Adult Education Administrator, administer adult education assessment tools, including Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems (CASAS) and California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE) testing at specified District locations to ensure accuracy in appropriate level of instruction and learner placement; ensure the security and maintenance of tests, examinee scores and records; and perform related administrative support activities.
: One 10 month/30 hours per week position and one 10 month/25 hours per week position (daytime positions), and two 10 month/12 hours per week positions (evening positions). The tentative hours for the evening positions are Monday through Thursday, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Salary placement will be on Range 17 of the CSEA Salary Schedule "B." Initial salary placement for new employees is customarily at step 1 ($21.83 per hour) of this salary range.
: This recruitment is open to the public. Eligibility lists typically last for one year. Vacant positions are filled from the top three ranks. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Conducts CASAS, CAHSEE and other adult education assessments by verifying candidate identity and application accuracy, checking inventory of test materials before and after testing sessions, and monitoring test performance to ensure individual test results.
- Scores and reports test results to students and teachers for proper placement into Adult School classes.
- Orders, inventories and safeguards CASAS and CAHSEE test and scoring material.
- Compiles and prepares testing materials (i.e. box, label and store documents) according to established procedures.
- Performs a variety of technical record-keeping and administrative duties in support of Adult School Academic program, including developing and maintaining database, records and files on students.
- Provides information and explanations to staff, students, parents, and community on testing procedures.
- Communicates and provides scores to students and teachers to place students at appropriate levels of instruction, to diagnose student strengths and weaknesses, to monitor progress, and to certify student mastery at specific levels of instruction or readiness to exit adult education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency.
Experience:
One year of experience in teaching, training, counseling, or testing.
Special:
- Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License.
- Evidence of adequate insurance for a motor vehicle which meets or exceeds the California legal liability insurance requirement and continue to maintain insurability.
- Use of an automobile.
- Some positions in this classification require the ability to speak, read, and write a second language in addition to English.
IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:
Knowledge of:
- Principles, practices, techniques, standards, requirements and procedures related to the administration, reporting and scoring of CASAS and CAHSEE test administration.
- Data collection and basic analysis methods and techniques, including methods and practices of record keeping and file maintenance.
- Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and other computer programs used for maintaining student information.
- Basic English usage, spelling, and grammar.
- Basic arithmetic.
Ability to:
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Exercise tact and judgment in meeting and dealing with sensitive, and complex confidential test administration issues and in explaining procedures to students, employees, and others.
- Exercise judgment and initiative and reach sound decisions within established policies and guidelines.

- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
