THE POSITION:
Under the direction of an Adult Education Administrator, administer testing for General Educational Development candidates at specified District locations; ensure the security and maintenance of tests, examine scores and records; and perform related administrative support activities.
CURRENT OPENING: One 10 month/40 hours per week position. Tentative work hours are as follows:
Monday through Thursday: 11:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Friday: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Salary placement will be on Range 19 of the CSEA Salary Schedule "B." Initial salary placement for new employees is customarily at step 1 ($3,972.90 per month) of this salary range.
APPLICANT FILING INFORMATION: This recruitment is open to the public. An eligibility list will be established to fill vacancies for full time, part time, evening, summer, and substitute positions throughout the duration of the eligibility list. Eligibility lists typically last for one year. Vacant positions are filled from the top three ranks. - Conducts GED testing by verifying candidate identity and application accuracy, checking inventory of test materials before and after testing sessions, and monitoring test performance to ensure individual test results.
- Scores and reports test results to the California Department of Education, arranging for essay scoring and recording essay scores when received.
- Orders, collects inventory information, and safeguards GED test and scoring material, returning non-expendable tests to GED Testing Service Center at contract year end, and arranges for additional materials as needed.
- Compiles and prepares testing materials (i.e. box, label and store documents) according to established procedures.
- Participates in research and surveys sponsored by GED Testing Service centers and checks student files and demographic forms for errors.
- Performs a variety of technical record-keeping and administrative duties in support of testing functions, including developing and maintaining database, records and files on candidates, and registering students for testing activities according to GED established procedures.
- Provides GED transcripts to candidates, schools and other testing facilities upon request.
- Communicates with Adult Education personnel, students, and various outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns.
- Provides information and explanations to staff, students, parents, and community on State/District procedures and policies related to GED testing.
- May periodically provide some assistance and support in conducting CASAS (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems), CAHSEE (California High School Exit Examination), and other adult education testing.
- Performs other related duties as directed.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS AMONG RELATED CLASSES
An Assessment Technician conducts CASAS testing for Adult Education students performing a variety of technical record-keeping, administrative duties, and various report generating functions in support of the Adult School Academic program. They may assist in proctoring a GED examination, but may not substitute for a GED Examiner.
A GED Examiner conducts GED testing for students for internal and external agencies, performing a variety of technical record-keeping, administrative duties, and various report generating functions in support of the Adult School GED testing program. Employment in this class requires that an incumbent have no affiliation with GED instructional activities. GED test administration and GED instruction are separate functions and the District cannot employ a person in both activities in the same time period.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Employees in this classification sit, walk, stand, lift and carry up to 25 lbs., push, pull, bend repeatedly, repetitively use fingers, wrists, or hands in a twisting motion or while applying pressure, use both hands simultaneously, speak clearly, hear normal voice conversation, need depth perception, can distinguish shades, see small details, drive a vehicle, use a computer and a telephone.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employees in this classification work inside, with a high volume of work, tight deadlines, continuous interruptions, and changing priorities.Education and Experience:
Graduation with a bachelor degree from an accredited college or university, and one year of experience in teaching, training, counseling, or testing.
OR
Completion of an Associates Degree or 60 semester units or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university, and three years of experience in teaching, training, counseling, or testing.
Special:
- Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License.
- Evidence of adequate insurance for a motor vehicle which meets or exceeds the California legal liability insurance requirement and continue to maintain insurability.
- Use of an automobile.
- Principles, practices, techniques, standards, requirements and procedures related to the administration, reporting and scoring of GED test administration.
- Data collection and basic analysis methods and techniques, including methods and practices of record keeping and file maintenance.
- Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and other computer programs used for maintaining GED candidate information.
- Basic English usage, spelling, and grammar.
- Basic arithmetic.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
