Overview
The Chief of Adult Acute Care Services is responsible for assuring that the highest quality care, treatmentand services are provided by all privileged practitioners. The Adult Acute Care Services Chief isresponsible for effective and efficient leadership of medical staff performance, Physical Therapy andPharmacy responsibilities. Has knowledge of and meets the requirements of the Joint Commission, CMS,state, and other applicable regulatory and/or accrediting agencies. The Adult Acute Care Services Chief isresponsible for clinical leadership and advice/counsel to the Chief Medical Officer, Deputy Chief MedicalOfficer, Chief Executive Officer, Board of Trustees, Vice President of Patient Care Services and others asneeded on all clinical affairs. This position also creates and maintains relationships with other academic,advocacy, medical, pharmaceutical and community based organizations on a local, state and nationallevel.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1. Graduate of an approved medical or osteopathic school2. Has completed residency training in general psychiatry and/or specialty3. Meets all other obligations as set down in the medical staff bylaws for membership on the Medical Staff4. Meet continuing education and testing obligations as required by the state and for maintenance ofcertification, as indicated.5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.6. Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suiteplatforms.
Licenses and Certifications Required:1. Medical Doctor License.
2. Drug Enforcement Agency Certificate.3. Controlled Dangerous Substances Physician Certification.4. Board certified or Board eligible in American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.5. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification or completed in the first 90 days of employment.
6. Board certification in general psychiatry and/or specialty from the American Board of Psychiatry andNeurology

Responsibilities
1. Provides system-wide medical services planning, effective direction to and leadership of all medicalprovider resources, effective financial management, development of medical services strategy and goals,accurate and timely reporting of goals and performance to the Chief Medical Officer, Deputy ChiefMedical, CEO and Board of Trustees.2. Provides appropriate medical guidance to nursing services; coordinates psychiatric and physicianResidency Program with educational institutions; designs and oversees telehealth strategy andimplementation.3. Participates in administrative meetings, hospital committees, the Executive Committee, and serves asa member of the Board of Trustees.4. Participates with leaders from the Executive Team. Board of Trustees, management, medical staff, andclinical areas in the hospital's decision-making structures and processes.5. Participates in the formulation of hospital goals, objectives and plans. The Acute Care Services Chiefis a vital leader in the development of new healthcare strategic planning initiative and direct oversight inclinical advancements in Psychiatry. Works with Associations, Teaching Organizations and Researchentities to expand Carrier's reputation in the industry.6. Maintains leadership role in local, state and national organizations to further the goals to improveoutcomes, increase patient satisfaction with care and reduce the cost of care.7. Actively participates in the pursuit of linkages and joint ventures to improve and stabilize the hospital's
referral base.8. Assumes the role of the Patient Safety Officer, Chairs the Patient Safety, Clinical Quality, and InfectionControl Committees, (or designee) and is responsible for the review, revision and approval of the PatientSafety Plan annually.9. Supports Utilization Management and responds to documentation requests efficiently and timely.10. Participates in the planning and evaluation of hospital programs and in the development of newservices and the efficacy of services delivered. Works closely with the VP of Patient Care Services on thedelivery of compassionate care and creating a culture of safety in conjunction with Nursing, Medical Staff,Social Service staff and all integrated services.11. Conducts ongoing Periodic Performance Evaluations as required by regulation. Recommends to the
Board of Trustees those members of the Medical Staff whose qualifications and performance meet re-appointment standards.
12. Makes rounds on all direct reports monthly and reports findings of significance throughout theorganization. Works with Medical Staff "Chiefs" to ensure appropriate delivery of care and planning withintheir areas of responsibility.13. Responsible for recruiting and maintaining the services of Medical Staff and Director of Pharmacy.Develops clinical programs and policies for medical and related departments and advises Administrationon medical matters.14. Responsible for overseeing the quality and effectiveness for the delivery of clinical care in alldesignated areas throughout the organization.15. Maintains credentials required of full-time medical staff. Assures that all LIP staff participates incontinuing education to maintain clinical skills and current competence.16. Assesses, evaluates, and acts to ensure that Performance Improvement, Corporate Compliance,Health Information Management, and Risk Management Standards are met and takes appropriate actionto continue development of the Medical Staff's role in Carrier's Performance Improvement Plan. Works inthe development and implementation of a program of continuous quality improvement.17. Maintains appropriate standards for all medical services, investigates and studies new developmentsin medical practice and techniques, reviews and acts upon reported concerns related to the quality andsafety of care and services provided.18. As an active member of the medical staff, acts as Staff Psychiatrist and performs all job duties andresponsibilities.19. Interacts with the Admissions/Access Center Director troubleshooting and providing clinical expertiseto ensure a continuous flow of admissions.20. Responsible for fostering effective, open communication among and across departments to ensurethat all needed information is shared. Works collaboratively and cooperatively with clinical staff and VP ofPatient Care Services to ensure continuity and coordination of clinical leadership for designated areas.21. Interacts well with patients, visitors, and Carrier staff, responding promptly to inquiries with tact andsensitivity. Demonstrates a courteous, cooperative, pleasant, and positive attitude, maintaining strictstandards of confidentiality.22. Interacts well with public, media, community agencies, and committees. Must also provide publicservice speaking engagements and representation of Carrier programs and activities.23. Continuously represents Carrier with outside agencies in order to enhance the stature of theorganization, serves as hospital liaison in appropriate clinical matters with the local medical community,
organized medical societies, and community organizations, and serves as an advocate and intermediarywith external regulators and agencies.24. Appoints committees as required by Bylaws, participates in committee deliberations, and shall be anex-officio member of the Board of Trustees with voting privileges.25. Responsible for effective fiscal management of Carrier's resources in area of oversight by providinginput to the clinical staff in the preparation of the annual operating budget and participating in thecompletion of treatment program budgets and monitors budget compliance monthly with the ExecutiveCommittee.26. Oversees the fiscal operations and budgets of the Medical Staff, Physical Therapy, Medical Affairs,and Pharmacy.27. Oversees the operations of the Pharmacy and the Department and Pharmacy and TherapeuticsCommittee.28. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.29.
