Overview
Hackney Real Estate Partners is currently seeking a highly motivated, reliable, organized and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our team in Richmond, VA. This position reports directly to the Controller and is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting team processes, monthly and quarterly financial reporting, analytical review, and investor analyses as required.

Duties
- Oversight of Property accounting team and processes
- Prepare or review financial reporting packages and other required financial information and analytics.
- Compiles, analyzes, and monitors financial data by performing detailed review of monthly property reports related to the Funds.
- Responsible for debt compliance preparation where required.
- Supports the daily activities of cash management for fund accounting.
- Reviews monthly Fund bank reconciliations manually recording journal entries for reconciling items if needed.
- Reviews cash balances with Property Accounting Director and communicates cash flow availability for the Funds.
- Assist with performance analysis, modeling, reporting and quarterly distributions for the funds and fund properties.
- Provide assistance with REIT accounting, compliance and reporting.
- Create presentations for reporting periods and for potential acquisitions and sales.
- Assist in the planning and execution of investor and capital raising events, including the annual meeting for the funds.
- Assist with the drafting of new fund documentation including preparation of charts, graphs and other supporting analysis.
- Interact with investors to fulfill requests and inquiries.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation required.
- 5 years of accounting experience preferably in the real estate industry. Public accounting experience a plus.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Proficiency in accounting software (Yardi, MRI or a similar platform).
- Strong analytical and research skills.
- High competency in Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Adobe products.
- Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Well organized, flexible and willingness to learn.
- Demonstrated ability to work productively and accurately in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and stringent deadlines.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Adept with technology and comfortable working in a paperless environment
- Ability to proactively identify issues and initiate actions.
- Displays a sense of urgency to effectively and efficiently complete varying workloads.
- Must have a high degree of integrity and discretion.
