Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Low Voltage and Home Automation Supervisor/Team Lead to oversee a team of technicians while actively participating in the installation, setup, and maintenance of low voltage systems and home automation solutions. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and practical hands-on abilities. The ideal candidate will have experience with industry-standard brands like Control4, Crestron, Lutron, Vantage, Somfy, strong knowledge of wiring, , networking and Wi-Fi, and basic programming, along with the ability to manage projects and guide a team to success.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Supervision:
- Lead, train, and supervise a team of low voltage and home automation technicians.
- Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure projects are completed on time and to specifications.
- Conduct quality checks on installations and troubleshoot issues as needed.
- Foster a collaborative and efficient team environment.
- Hands-On Technical Work:
- Install, configure, and maintain low voltage systems, including structured wiring, audio/video systems, security systems, and home automation setups.
- Program and integrate home automation systems using platforms like Control4 and other common brands (e.g., Crestron, Lutron, Savant, etc.).
- Perform wiring tasks such as running cables, terminating connections, and ensuring compliance with electrical codes.
- Project Execution:
- Collaborate with management, and team members to plan and execute low voltage and automation projects.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams.
- Ensure all installations meet safety standards and manufacturer specifications.
- Troubleshooting & Maintenance:
- Diagnose and resolve issues with low voltage systems, networking, and automation hardware/software.
- Provide ongoing support and maintenance for installed systems.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of installations, configurations, and team performance.
- Communicate project updates and technical details to management as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in low voltage systems and home automation installation.
- Proven experience with Control4 systems (certification preferred) and familiarity with other brands like Crestron, Lutron, or Savant.
- Prior supervisory or team lead experience is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of low voltage wiring (e.g., Cat5e, Cat6, coaxial, speaker wire) and termination techniques.
- Proficiency in Wi-Fi technology and basic networking (e.g., IP addressing, router setup, troubleshooting connectivity).
- Familiarity with Ubiquiti equipment and interfaces (e.g., UniFi) is a plus.
- Basic programming skills for home automation systems (e.g., Control4 Composer, scripting, or logic-based configuration).
- Basic PC knowledge (e.g., Windows OS, software installation, driver updates).
- Understanding of general hardware components (e.g., AV receivers, controllers, sensors) and their integration.
- Tool Proficiency:
- Comfortable using power tools (e.g., drills, saws) and hand tools for installation tasks.
- Experience with cable testers, multimeters, and other diagnostic tools.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Customer-service oriented with a professional demeanor.
- Certifications & Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or associate degree in a related field preferred.
- Control4 certification or equivalent home automation training is a strong advantage.
- Low voltage licensing or certification (if required by state/local regulations).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Ubiquiti networking products (e.g., UniFi Access Points, switches, cameras).
- Knowledge of additional home automation ecosystems (e.g., Google Home, Amazon Alexa, SmartThings).
- Familiarity with security systems (e.g., CCTV, Access Control) and their integration into automation setups.
- Advanced programming or scripting skills for custom automation solutions.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in confined spaces (e.g., attics, crawlspaces).
- Comfortable working at heights (e.g., ladders, scaffolding) and using safety equipment.
- Willingness to travel to job sites as needed.
