Assistant Managers are responsible for ensuring that associates provide exceptional customer service while achieving sales goals. This includes ensuring customer satisfaction, driving sales, building sales skills and product knowledge. Effective Assistant Managers maximize productivity and profitability by balancing sales and expenses, identifying sales opportunities and setting customer service standards. They must demonstrate knowledge of the store’s purpose and goals and have the skills to help associates achieve those. An assistant store manager contributes to the growth and development of the management team and store associates.
Customer Service
• Always be polite and attentive to customers. Make eye contact, smile, and ALWAYS say thank you. Do not
avoid customers.
• Ensure each customer receives amazing service
• Provide positive representation of store.
• Proactively assist customers in solving problems.
• Greet customers entering and throughout the store. Thank customers when finished and when they are
leaving the store.
• Provide a friendly, outgoing demeanor; work well with customers as well as associates.
• Ensure all calls and pages are answered promptly, courteously and effectively.
• Handle customer complaints. Work to resolve problems with the customer and have store’s best interest
taken into consideration.
• Possess excellent product knowledge and knowledge of store layout and location of products.
Store Operations
• Ensure a positive, professional and safe work environment for all associates.
• Supervise the “general operations” of the entire store.
• Ensure compliance with all practices, policies and procedures necessary.
Leadership
• Strong leadership and analytical skills
• Challenge all associates to think of ways to better merchandise product, control expenses and increase sales.
• Lead by example; be approachable by all associates and customers.
• Operates with a high degree of honesty, integrity, treats others with respect, dignity, and fairness.
• Education/Training: High School degree, some college preferred.
• Possess a vast product knowledge of hardware related products along with a willingness to learn
• Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years’ retail management experience
• Strong problem-solving skills
Physical Requirements
The minimum physical requirements for this position include:
• Ability to stand for an extended period of time
• Must be able to lift 40 pounds frequently to load and unload customer orders
• Move and handle boxes of merchandise and fixtures throughout the store, which entail lifting and perform all
functions as set forth
