Responsibilities For The Floodplain Management Technical Assistance Specialist Include
- Implement substantial damage assessments in impacted areas and prepare associated documentation in alignment with FEMA Public Assistance (PA) program, Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) program, and NFIP requirements.
- Identify and implement substantial damage assessment and floodplain management strategies to meet FEMA PA, HMA, and NFIP requirements and client recovery needs.
- Lead small teams to complete assessments and floodplain management activities within established project deadlines.
- Contribute to drafting guidance to clients regarding NFIP compliance and help guide clients through floodplain management-related policy challenges.
- Identify and implement process improvements opportunities to increase overall team and project productivity and efficiency.
- Provide clients with FEMA policy subject matter expertise to help drive client decision-making.
- A bachelor’s degree.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience related to FEMA NFIP and floodplain management.
- Previous project management experience.
- A comprehensive understanding of FEMA NFIP policy.
- Demonstrated ability to follow direction in a fast-paced environment.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills to produce technically and programmatically sound deliverables with little oversight.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables), Microsoft Word, and other Microsoft Office products.
- A master’s degree pertinent to environmental science, floodplain management, emergency management, or similar field.
- Consulting experience at the federal, state, and/or local level of government; with universities; and/or in the private sector.
- Experience working for FEMA, grantees, or subgrantees to implement FEMA NFIP, HMA, or PA programs.
- Experience implementing floodplain management standards and activities to support NFIP Community Rating System (CRS) eligibility.
- Hold a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certification from the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM).
- Salary range of $85,000 - $150,000. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skills, experience and training, licensure and certifications, internal equity, location, travel requirements, and other business and organizational needs.
