Brief Position Description:

The Superintendent is responsible for the supervision and management of all aspects of assigned project(s) from mobilization through punch list and demobilization, including client relations, and cost control of general conditions. The Superintendent is Haggerty’s direct link between Haggerty, our clients, and subcontractors/vendors. The minimum requirements for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Accountable For:


Quality/Supervision:

  • Ensuring all construction work performed is of the highest quality
  • Ensuring project mobilization occurs including all necessary signage and (HCI) jobsite branding
  • Works with Project Manager / Project Coordinator to resolve problems regarding plans or specifications, conflicts with the architect, engineer, clients, and subcontractors
  • Accurately understanding and noting plans to ensure scope coverage
  • Ensuring demobilization of HCI owned equipment and all trades from the jobsite occurs and site is left in a clean, orderly manner
  • Generation and timely completion of the project punch list.

 

Safety:

  • Accurate and timely submittal of any Incident Reports to Safety Manager and Human Resource (HR) Manager within 24 hours of injury
  • Maintaining a safe work environment, adhering to HCI’s safety policies and procedures, and ensuring all people on the jobsite follow the same
  • Holding weekly tailgate safety meetings and obtaining signatures from all in attendance
  • Maintaining and filling company assigned Emergency Medical Kits, including vehicle first aid kits
  • Maintaining / refilling all documents in the Vehicle Binder
  • Completing Monthly Vehicle Inspections for company assigned vehicle and turning in by date indicated by Vehicle Administrator.
  • Completing OSHA 10 training resulting in certification
  • Weekly subcontractor foreman meetings that review all project specific details

 

Reporting:

  • Accurate and timely Daily Reports, including photos, for each project submitted no later than Friday afternoon for the week
  • Documenting and communicating change orders to the Project Manager / Project Coordinator for submittal to the client
  • Submitting Requests for Information (RFI’s) in a timely and effective manner
  • Documenting, in terms of As-Built Drawings, all corrections, changes, and RFI’s
  • Tracking, maintaining, and securing company owned tools at all times
  • Communicating daily with the job specific Project Manager / Project Coordinator and provide any updates as needed
  • Maintenance and cleanliness of HCI owned vehicle (if applicable)


Scheduling:

  • Utilizing the 5 Week Look Ahead Schedule to maintain and regularly communicate the construction schedule with the subcontractors and Project Manager throughout the life of the project
  • Scheduling and directing all inspections with Authority Having Jurisdiction officials, government agencies, and private agencies as required including project final inspection
  • Submitting manpower requests to Production Manager no later than 48 hours prior to the manpower need

Scheduling/Supervision/Communication:

  • Assisting Project Managers and Development Team in formulating construction schedule
  • Scheduling all trades and daily material deliveries with the appropriate onsite building or owner contact
  • Scheduling all project specific self-perform work in consultation with the Production Manager
  • Attending job start up and close out meetings
  • Maintaining total project knowledge
  • Maintaining a clean work environment
  • Assisting in scheduling and attending the preconstruction/project kickoff meeting
  • Supervising employees, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure both quality control and project compliance
  • Ensuring subcontractors maintain a clean working environment
  • Providing all materials and general oversite of all job specific self-perform work
  • Checking email at least four times per day and responds to email within 24 hours
  • Documenting the life of the project though daily photos
  • Clearly communicating with the client when asked

 

Safety:

  • Conducting regularly scheduled safety training and procedure meetings for subcontractors
  • Performing safety management responsibilities, orientations, quarterly meetings, OSHA Standards, including planning, communication, monitoring, enforcement, and documentation
  • Managing incidents and crisis per HCI requirements and direction
  • Maintaining OSHA and HCI’s required safety literature
  • Following Emergency Action Plan procedures

 

Authority To:

Final decision-making powers

  • Remove trades from the jobsite for failure to comply with HCI’s safety policies and procedures
  • Schedule all inspections as required
  • Make in-field corrections and changes as required to maintain project timeline and budget
  • Documentation of necessary change orders. Superintendent cannot execute change orders unless directed by the Project Manager or member of the Executive Team.


Reports To:

  • The Superintendent reports directly to the General Superintendent

  • Availability to work extended hours as required by weather conditions or urgent circumstances
  • Ability to travel throughout all areas of construction sites during all phases of a project
  • Hearing and visual capabilities to safely handle the hazards encountered in the work environment
  • Ability to lift heavy objects as encountered in the work environment
  • Ability to raise, lower and climb various types of ladders


General Requirements for All Positions:

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a larger team
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including, but not limited to, Outlook, Word, Excel, and Project
  • Working knowledge of Procore Construction software
  • Ability to create and work with Adobe PDF’s
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to understand the same
  • Excellent listening and understanding skills
  • Must be proactive, well organized, and have a strong ability to prioritize
  • Extreme attention to detail
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and have excellent follow up skills, both internally and externally
  • Must be self-motivated, punctual, and professional in both presentation, appearance, and speech
  • Provide solution-based responses to issues
  • Able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds
  • Fluent in the English language
  • Reliable personal transportation and a motor vehicle driving record that is consistent with HCI’s and insurance carrier’s standards and policies
  • Ongoing professional development and training is highly encouraged and is tied into compensation and career advancement consideration


Educational and Experience Considerations:

  • Minimum of 5 to 10 years’ experience in construction industry in a supervisory role
  • Working knowledge of all crafts (ability to read and understand specifications for all trades), and prior experience as a foreman or journeyman
  • CPR and First Aid certified
  • OSHA 10-hour training certified
  • OSHA 30-hour training certified (preferred)
