Job Summary :

This exciting Human Resources site leadership opportunity is based at the Hagyard Equine Institute located in Lexington, Kentucky. Hagyard Equine Medical Institute is the oldest and largest private equine veterinary practice in the world. This key position is responsible for all aspects of HR support including leadership development, talent management, performance management, employee relations, and culture initiatives - partnering with the PetVet Care Centers HR team and the Hagyard Leadership Team to deliver results and ensure a positive and inclusive work environment.

This position has supervisory responsibility for the onsite Hagyard HR team (3 team members) and the role also serves as a partner, coach, and mentor for the Hagyard Leadership team.

Reporting to the Regional HR Director, with a dotted line to the Hagyard Chief Operations Office, this role will be responsible for :

Duties / Responsibilities :

Talent Management :

  • Develops and maintains strong partnerships with the Hagyard Leadership Team and their employees acting as a trusted advisor and business partner to lead HR delivery for the equine practice.
  • Leads "people planning" to provide guidance and input to field leadership about hospital organizational charts / structure, restructures, workforce planning and succession planning.
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to field leadership (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, corrective / disciplinary actions).

Talent Acquisition

  • Participates in the interviewing, hiring, and promotion process for hospital leadership and critical roles at Hagyard.
  • Accountable for the execution of intern, trainee and seasonal support staffing, inclusive of oversight of the immigration process for international employees, including visa applications, work permit renewals, and compliance with relevant regulations. Collaborate with internal / external legal counsel.
  • Team Leadership :

  • Delivers day-to-day work direction for the Hagyard on-site HR team comprised of talent acquisition, payroll, and data administration, providing coaching, mentoring and performance feedback.
  • Assign tasks and responsibilities, ensuring efficient workflow and team collaboration.
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment within the HR team.
  • Employee Relations & Compliance

  • Documents, manages and resolves employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations ensuring equity, fairness, and consistency. Provides guidance and recommendations for resolution.
  • Ensures compliance to legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Advises on leave and accommodation processes such as ADA, FMLA, etc.
  • Works closely with Hagyard leadership and employees to improve local culture, including working relationships, building morale, and increasing productivity, and enhancing retention.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and documentation.
  • Performs related duties, including training and facilitation of classes, research, and other projects as assigned.
  • Payroll & Compensation

  • In partnership with the PetVet Care Centers Compensation team, reviews and provides guidance / feedback on hospital wage reviews, promotional rate changes, and off cycle compensation changes.
  • Oversee the accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly payroll, including data entry, calculations, deductions, and tax filings. Monitor payroll discrepancies and resolve issues promptly.
  • Required Skills / Abilities :

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources Management or related field
  • 5 years of experience in a human resources business partner role
  • Demonstrated knowledge of labor and employment laws
  • Proven analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, judgment, and influencing skills
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Preferred Skills / Abilities :

  • 1 year veterinary, equine and / or and performance horse industry experience
  • 2 years of broad-based compensation experience which may include, but is not limited to, performing salary surveys, job evaluation / classification, determining FLSA status, internal / external equity analysis, and developing job descriptions
  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Pay Range

    80,000-$100,000 USD
