What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paralegal - Labor and Employment position at Hahn Loeser & Parks LLP?
Hahn Loeser seeks a paralegal to support the Labor and Employment team in the Cleveland office. This individual will collaborate closely with the legal team and clients throughout all phases of employment counseling and litigation matters. Candidates should have a minimum of four years of defense/management-side employment experience with a law firm and experience working with related government agencies (EEOC, NLRB, OSHA, Worker’s Compensation, etc.).
Key Responsibilities:
- Drafting various discovery-related documents, such as interrogatory and subpoena responses
- Preparing documents and exhibits for depositions and hearings, and maintaining organized case files and documentation to ensure accuracy and confidentiality
- Utilizing e-discovery tools to manage and review document collections and productions
- Managing all aspects of discovery and trial preparation, including the collection, review and analysis of documents; written responses to discovery requests; scheduling and preparing for depositions; and post judgment appellate work
Applicants must be highly organized, proactive, and self-motivated. We are looking for someone who can immediately contribute to the practice area, meet critical deadlines, demonstrate strong communication skills, and handle confidential client information. Some travel may be required during trial.
Qualifications
- A minimum of four years of paralegal experience with a focus on defense/management-side litigation or employment support in state and federal court
- An associate or bachelor’s degree, or a paralegal certificate is preferred, but relevant experience can be substituted for academic credentials
- A high degree of intellectual curiosity, attention to detail, and the ability to work well with attorneys and staff across offices
- Sound judgment in resolving complex matters and the ability to analyze information to solve problems while managing multiple tasks and deadlines
- Taking ownership of work by leading and managing projects and proactively providing updates to attorneys
- Familiarity with Ohio and federal jurisdiction rules, Westlaw, and e-filing procedures
- Experience with e-discovery, including working with outside vendors, organizing and coding documents using document software
- Experience with preparing for mediations, arbitrations, and trials including preparing trial exhibits, is strongly preferred.
