Position Overview
As a staff accountant at HAI Group, you will be a part of a team working on multiple companies preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports. Responsibilities include reconciling balance sheet accounts, analyzing trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred.
The staff accountant applies commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the insurance industry and relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals connecting business partners to financial concepts and regulations. The staff accountant continually educates themselves about the enterprise and diverse internal businesses.
Essential Functions
- Record financial transactions in the organization and report these transactions in financial statements, such as the balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows.
- Develop monthly financial statements and variance analysis reports, as well as reconciliations for balance sheet accounts; (e.g., financial flash reports, supplemental summary financial reports).
- Record reinsurance transactions, including ceded and assumed premiums and losses as well as working with reinsurance partners in the tracking and recording of reinsurance recoverables.
- Partner with our Regulatory and Compliance team to ensure accuracy and timeliness of all statutory/non-profit filings.
- Perform specialized functions including facilitating filing of taxes (federal and state returns and estimated payments for multiple companies), banking, cash flow monitoring and investments.
- Assist the Audit team when tasked to examine financial accounts to ensure their accuracy and compliance with laws and regulations.
- Help to establish and maintain financial systems and controls to ensure accurate, timely, and sound financial operations.

- Accounting/ Finance subject matter expertise
- Knowledge of property-liability insurance company operations
- Knowledge of GAAP/STAT
- Understanding of relevant financial regulatory requirements.

Job Requirements
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related Financial Field
- 3 years of experience in the field or in a related area
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of property/casualty insurance operations and/or public/affordable housing
Work environment & Physical Demands
