Overview/Purpose:

Manage and oversee the entire production process while adhering to employee safety requirements, SQF standards, HACCP principles, allergen controls and GMP practices. Strive to continuously improve efficiencies and increase productivity to ensure customer service goals are met. Support Operations Manager in all aspects of managing production activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop daily/weekly production schedules consistent with PRISM/MRP requirements and supervise efforts of production supervisors across 3 shifts
  • Ensure compliance with all FDA, OSHA, Hain regulatory and SQF audit requirements
  • Applies discretion and progressive discipline to accomplish objectives and enforce company policy, establish and maintain all necessary lines of communication
  • Maintain and update all procedural manuals as required
  • Develop employee awareness through ongoing training programs, including periodic presentations on productivity, housekeeping, food safety, allergen issues, process controls, employee safety, etc., promote employee involvement and feedback
  • Determine manning requirements and productivity rates to assist plant controller in development of department budget
  • Assigns and re-assigns labor in production as needed based on goals and direction from the operations manager and other department leaders
  • Monitors and reinforces department rules and company standards for safety, quality, and productivity
  • Acts as a backup for supervisors for approvals and other processes in ADP for all department employees
  • Executes performance reviews in ADP for supervisors periodically
  • Provides coaching and feedback as needed
  • Serves as process SME and helps resolve issues related to process, equipment, and tools related to production
  • Executes various audits, checklists, and other forms of verification of production/warehouse

  • Gathers and monitors production process metrics via MES and other methodologies to provide effective and timely course correction as needed
  • As part of the leadership team, leads root cause analysis of errors, and assists supervisors in completing corrective action, preventive action (CAPA's) as necessary
  • Audits performance and provides retraining for supervisors as needed
  • Supports and implements 5/S and other continuous improvement initiatives
  • Completes other production related tasks as assigned by the operations manager
  • Supports leadership in other departments as assigned
Requirements:

Requirements:

  • BS/BA Degree or equivalent experience in a manufacturing operation with experience in processing and packaging consumer goods products. Food industry experience highly preferred.
  • 3-5 years leadership experience
  • Must have experience in working MES, Lighthouse, Redzone, etc.
  • Must be able to work well with and command the respect of associates and team members and the ability to provide feedback and coaching.
  • Must have a clear and concise understanding and respect for company policies as they apply to production requirements, safety, quality and environmental programs as well as regulatory experience with FDA, OSHA, state DEP
  • Excellent organization and prioritization skills
  • Excellent communication skills, bilingual a plus (English and Spanish)
  • Proven track record of continuous improvement, and understanding of data analysis and trends (data collection, evaluation, trending, and reporting of basic operating metrics)
  • Basic mechanical aptitude/troubleshooting and thorough knowledge of production equipment operation.
  • High degree of familiarity with Excel, Word, Power Point, MES
  • Strong Safety Record
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to understand internal partners up and downstream from operations
  • High degree of flexibility
  • High energy and proven speed of execution
  • Ability to work off-shift to support 2nd and 3rd shifts

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This person has multiple direct reports and is indirectly responsible for as many as 150 packers, line leads and other production support employees and 3 supervisors on 3 shifts. All production personnel are responsible to take work direction from supervisors and the Production supervisor may be asked to provide coverage in other departments/shifts as needed. Occasional weekends as needed.

Hours and Travel:

This person may occasionally be asked to help cover for supervisors on other shifts on a case-by-case basis. Travel is not generally required for this position though some assignments and training may be held off-site.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly required to work around operating equipment, stand, reach, pull, stoop and bend
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand. The employee is frequently required to use their hands and fingers to handle, feel objects, use tools or controls, and climb or balance.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, low levels of toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electric shock and explosives.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. However, some instances of this job may require work in areas where ear protection if necessary.
