SUMMARY
The Laboratory Director is responsible for providing direction and supervision of laboratory staff to ensure the delivery of competent, effective, and safe patient care services. The lab director will also provide general supervision of all medical laboratory technicians, phlebotomists, and lab technicians in the performance of lab activities.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Responsible for all Hale County Hospital lab operations
2. Manages and coordinates patient care, utilizing a multidisciplinary team
3. Communicates recommendations and requirements for additional lab services for patients to the appropriate individuals
4. Assures compliance of operations with the hospital, state, federal, and local rules and regulations
1. Assures compliance with CLIA inspection
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Prepares reagents and solutions.
2. Examine and analyze bodily fluids and cells.
3. Reports abnormalities and maintains a detailed record of daily activities.
4. Performs phlebotomy procedures when necessary.
5. Type and cross-match blood samples.
6. Responsible for lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects.
7. Ability to lift and carry objects up to fifty (50) pounds in weight.
8. Attends mandatory departmental meetings.
1. Adheres to the dress code, attendance, and all other company policies and procedures.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
1. Associate of Science degree in medical technology or life sciences or accredited MLT program preferred.
2. ASCP or AMT certification preferred.
3. Two (2) years of experience in a hospital setting preferred.
4. Must have a valid driver’s license with appropriate automobile insurance
5. Must be able to communicate articulately and comprehend written and verbal communications
6. Must be able to function efficiently in a stressful work environment
1. Must have a genuine interest in hospital and clinic laboratory services
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. May be exposed to the risk of communicable diseases and radiation.
2. May require handling of unclean or infectious materials.
3. Normally works in a well-lighted, well-ventilated area.
4. Must be able to work under the stress and conditions that normally exist in a hospital setting.
