We are looking to add new talent to our growing team! We are currently seeking a motivated entry-level to mid-level Staff Environmental Scientist or Geologist/Hydrogeologist 1 to work in a technical support role with highly skilled professionals on diverse project teams in a dynamic environment. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing group and company and get involved in a variety of projects for a diverse range of clients. This full-time position will be based in our Ann Arbor, MI or Grand Rapids, MI offices.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will:
- Perform site reconnaissance to observe existing conditions, assess site access for subsurface explorations, and identify important site features.
- Conduct field work including monitoring subsurface explorations, collecting bedrock, soil, and groundwater samples, monitoring geotechnical instrumentation, and construction monitoring of geotechnical and environmental projects. Prepare detailed summaries of field observations.
- Complete environmental due diligence projects, including desktop reviews, Phase I, and/or Phase II Environmental Site Assessments
- Conduct routine data collection, synthesis, analysis and reporting of instrumentation, geological, and/or environmental data.
- Review site history and applicable regulations for projects. Prepare written reports and cost estimates.
- Attend project meetings with clients and contractors.
- Adhere to Site Specific Health & Safety Plans prepared by the company for each project site or those mandated by our client. Participate in site safety briefings and audits by both contractors and Haley & Aldrich.
- Coordinate with internal Haley & Aldrich project team members on a daily basis.
- Review and understand pertinent company standard operating procedures,
- Building Codes, standards, regulations, and ordinances.
- Comply with the Guiding Principles and Code of Behavior articulated in our Company Charter.
- This position will require frequent travel, including out of state week-long travel.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor of Science degree in Geology or Environmental Science.
- 0 - 2 years of geology or environmental consulting or other related work experience (internships included).
- Experience with collection of samples and interpretation of data pertaining to structural geology, groundwater, soil, indoor air, or soil vapor a plus.
- Prior experience performing ASTM Phase I and Phase II ESAs is desired, but not necessary.
- Must possess strong written, verbal, and telephone communication skills, particularly the ability to produce accurate and concise field notes, exploration logs, and field reports.
- Must possess strong computer skills, including proficiency in industry standard software (e.g., Microsoft Word and Excel, and Adobe Acrobat at a minimum and preferably gINT).
- Must have a valid driver's license, have the ability to travel to temporary out-of-town assignments as needed, and have a reliable form of transportation to travel to job sites and the office.
- Must be able to safely lift up to 30 lbs. unassisted.
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training is preferred (may be required to complete 40-hour Health & Safety training, 10-hour Construction training, Nuclear Density Gage training, Soil and Rock Classification training, and other applicable in-house training).
- Has applied, or has interest and ability to apply for, initial professional certification in the candidate’s core discipline, where applicable (e.g., GIT, PG, EIT, FE).
