What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Department Chair position at Halifax Community College?
The primary goal of this position is to deliver instruction and provide support for student success.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver instruction based on student learning outcomes and performance levels.
- Create an effective learning environment that fosters student engagement.
- Meet classes as assigned, using teaching methods designed for various learning styles.
- Use course materials in accordance with college and departmental guidelines.
In addition to instructional responsibilities, the successful candidate will:
- Maintain a minimum of five office hours per week to advise students.
- Assist with maintaining a classroom environment emphasizing safety, good housekeeping, and equipment security.
- Order and inventory departmental supplies, materials, and equipment.
- Serve on college committees and participate in special events.
- Participate in the college's assessment process and contribute to the Quality Enhancement Plan.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants must hold a Master's degree in Human Services or Social Work, or 18 graduate credits in Human Services or a related field.
- Preferred qualifications include a Master's in Human Services or MSW, 3-5 years of teaching experience, and hands-on human and social services experience.
- Candidates must be able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with colleagues.
