Job Title: Part-Time Peer or Professional Tutor
The Halifax Community College seeks a part-time peer or professional tutor to plan, organize, and tutor various courses as assigned to ensure positive student learning outcomes. The tutor will provide pedagogy consistent with program learning outcomes and the mission and vision of the College.
About the Role:
Responsibilities:
1. Provide individualized support to students, promoting academic excellence and confidence in their abilities.
2. Develop and implement effective tutoring strategies aligned with individual diverse student learning styles and curriculum or subjects.
3. Foster a supportive learning environment, encouraging students to participate and take ownership of their academic goals.
4. Monitor student progress, documenting academic information, and providing timely feedback.
5. Facilitate communication between students and faculty as needed, serving as a liaison between departments.
Requirements:
1. Associate degree from an accredited college or completed at least two college semesters of coursework.
2. Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
3. Strong English, reading, math, oral, writing, and communication skills or a combination thereof.
4. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
5. Maintain a 3.0 GPA and have an A or B grade in the desired courses.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, English, Biology, Human Services, Computer Science, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related fields.
2. Teaching and distance education experience a plus.
