Description
Under the supervision of the VP of Workforce and Operations, the Director, Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) is responsible for coordinating all aspects of law enforcement and directly related training with NCCCS, regulatory and certification agencies, and law enforcement agencies to ensure compliance with all laws, rules, and regulations. To ensure safety of training and promote customer satisfaction. To research customer needs and develop new or modify current course offerings.
Examples of Duties
- Researches and determines educational needs and interests of the workforce and continuing education law enforcement programs;
- Develops new or modify course offerings;
- Oversees all functions for the BLET Academy
- Recruits students;
- Assigns and evaluates instructors;
- Assumes teaching responsibilities as needed in the areas of law enforcement, detention,telecommunications, corrections, probation and parole, juvenile justice, general instructor, and related specialty courses;
- Schedules instructors, maintains student records, arranges testing, updates lesson plans and books, and maintains facility and equipment;
- Evaluates instructors;
- Ensures safety of training and promotes customer satisfaction;
- Ensures compliance with various certifying agencies;
- Meets various program reporting requirements;
- Coordinates in-service training;
- Serves as the liaison for HCC in matters of criminal justice at local, state, and federal levels;
- Meets with agency contacts to solicit feedback and determine training needs;
- Participates in community events, attends meetings, and makes presentations as needed;
- Assists in dissemination of law enforcement information;
- Keeps current on latest trends, regulations, and equipment;
- Maintains School Director Certifications; and
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
- Supervise Qualified Assistant and any part-time personnel.
Minimum/Required Qualifications
.Required:
- High school graduate and four years of full-time law enforcement experience.
- NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission General Instructor certification
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field.
- Experience teaching in the Community College setting
- Formal Management training or work experience supervising other employees.
- Ability to work flexible and non-traditional hours.
- Ability to travel as needed.
