IT Network Engineer II

IT Network Engineer II
The Network Engineer II provides advanced support for the Halifax Health enterprise network to ensure a stable environment. The primary responsibilities include planning, design, and implementation of network infrastructure projects, optimization and support of the existing network, creating/updating documentation, and training/assisting junior technical staff members as needed
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related degree, or equivalent experience.
- 5 years of experience in network engineering.
- Minimum CCNA or similar certification required; CCNP preferred.
- Ability to work well with people and handle technical problems under pressure in a 24/7/365 uptime environment.
- Proficient in communication and writing skills to write technical specifications, document existing and planned systems, create training material, and assist/train junior staff members.
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, LICENSURE:
- Expert knowledge of routing and switching technologies (LACP, BGP, VPC, Multicast, etc.). Cisco experience is beneficial.
- Expert knowledge of WLAN technologies (802.1a/b/g/n/ac, understanding channel cells, spectrum analysis).
- Experience with SIP/VOIP/Video/Collaboration technologies is advantageous.
- Strong ability to troubleshoot complex network issues in a critical environment where high uptime is expected.
- Capability to generate and maintain technical documentation.
- Solid understanding of data center and campus design and operational best practices.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyzes, diagnoses, and resolves network problems in a large system for users. Recommends and implements corrective/preventative solutions.
- Collaborates with network engineers and other in-house teams to resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Plans and implements large networking projects for voice, data, and video including hardware replacements or upgrades with minimal downtime, new systems implementations, new construction, and renovations.
- Evaluates, tests, and recommends new hardware, software, or other technology to improve the network environment and/or provide cost savings to the organization.
- Coordinates with vendors and other departments in the hospital on projects.
- Supports multiple off-site WAN locations throughout the area, which may require driving to these locations.
- Assists with ensuring the continuous, uninterrupted availability and functionality of the Halifax network and responds to emergency network outages/repair requests and/or after-hours network implementations as required for maintaining optimum service levels with minimal interruptions to users and network downtime.
- Creates or updates documentation as needed.
- Trains other team members as needed on new/changed systems.
- Participates in an on-call rotation.
- May be required to work during emergencies such as hurricanes.
