The Hall County Library System is seeking a Library Assistant I Floater to work at its various branches. This position serves in several public and technical services work areas of the library based on staffing needs, library activity, and requirements for substitutes to fill positions while other staff members are on leave.
Examples of Work Include: assisting technical services in preparing materials for circulation, repairing books and multimedia materials, checking in orders for technical services, performing circulation activities including checking materials in and out and registering new borrowers, performing basic reference services and computer assistance, assisting patrons in locating materials and placing holds, shelving library materials, and other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Subject to evenings and weekends. Typically, the schedule will be Mondays and Thursdays late afternoon until closing, and Saturdays. The library location worked at will vary based on staffing needs.
Staff Development Requirements: Must complete 10 contact hours of continuing education per year.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to understand and use electronic catalog, circulation, and patron record computer programs as well as e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets, and desktop publishing programs. Ability to communicate effectively with the public and staff. Basic clerical skills including understanding of alphabetical and numerical order. Basic understanding of the Dewey Decimal Classification system. Ability to travel among all library branch locations as needed for work assignments. Accuracy in shelving materials and filing. Flexible scheduling availability. Ability to lift 10 pounds with occasional lifting of heavier items up to 25 pounds and push a cart with up to 100 pounds on it. Ability to sit in an office chair for an extended period of time. Ability to bend knees, stretch and lift up to 3 pounds overhead.
Required Education, Training, Experience: High school diploma or GED required. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply. Preference given to candidates with library experience.
