The Hall County Library System is seeking a part-time (18 hours) Library Assistant I to work at the Blackshear Place Library. This position provides information service to the public through modern library techniques and technology, assists patrons with electronic equipment and resources, assists adults and young adults in finding research and reading materials, shelving, helps maintain order in the department, assist with passport acceptance duties, and other duties as assigned.
The Blackshear Place branch is a passport application acceptance facility. As such, the successful applicant must be willing and able to certify as a passport acceptance agent (see requirements below).
Skills include: Ability to understand and use complex electronic catalog, circulation, and patron record computer software as well as e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and desktop publishing programs. Ability to understand and use reference tools in print form and in online databases. Basic clerical skills including understanding of alphabetical and numerical order and an understanding of and ability to use the Dewey Decimal Classification system. Ability to execute age-appropriate programs. Ability to communicate with the public in a positive manner, either individually or in an audience. Ability to make decisions within stated guidelines and to work independently in a wide variety of situations. Solid commitment to customer service and protection of intellectual freedom and privacy rights of library users. Ability to lift 10 pounds and push a cart with up to 100 pounds on it. Ability to bend knees, stretch and lift up to 3 pounds over your head.
High School Diploma or GED required. Two years prior work experience. Written and oral Spanish (bilingual) skills desirable. Preference given to candidates with library experience. Required to complete 10 hours of continuing education per year. Subject to work evenings and weekends.
$11.29 per hour. Benefits include optional Flexible Benefits Plan, three paid holidays, and access to the employee assistance program.
