Overview
The primary responsibility as a lifeguard is to prevent drowning and other injuries from occurring. Candidates must be able to ensure the safety of patrons by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors. This person will need to be able to solve on-the-job issues by utilizing effective critical thinking and decision-making skills and possess the ability to work with diverse populations. Lifeguards must be able to enforce pool policies and be able to communicate effectively why policies are in place.
Responsibilities
- Assisting in the support and enforcement of rules and regulations.
- Initiating and promoting good water safety habits.
- Continuously scan pool area to detect safety concerns and practice preventative lifeguarding.
- Assisting in the operation and maintenance of the pool.
- Patrolling pool areas to maintain cleanliness of the facility. Such as picking up towels, trash, and toys.
- Setting-up and Tearing-down for swim and dive meets and events.
- Conducting self in a professional manner while listening to, understanding, and relating to guests while using the facilities.
- Providing positive and enthusiastic customer service to all members and guests.
- Assisting youth activities in activities, events, and promotions to enhance member experience.
- Performing other duties as assigned or directed.
- Must be 15 years of age or older.
- Candidates must be able to exhibit proficiency in swimming.
- Preferred candidates will have American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
- Certified swim instructor, or ability to obtain certification, preferred.
- Regular and predictable attendance required.
- Excellent outgoing and engaging personality.
- Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to walk frequently.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds.
- This position may require an individual to work some holidays and weekends.
