Hallmark’s internship program is held annually, starting late May and ending in early August, and provides the valuable opportunity to apply your classroom knowledge to meaningful projects in a corporate creative environment. In addition, you will gain exposure to Hallmark leadership, learn more about our products and initiatives, connect with employees and interns from other disciplines, and enjoy what life is like in the Kansas City metro area.
POSITION OVERVIEW
As an Illustration Intern in Hallmark's Visual Studios, you'll have the opportunity to leverage consumer insights and visual trends to create original illustration for a variety of different 2D and 3D consumer product formats. Hallmark’s illustrators conceptualize ideas, creating original content for style guides & collections, ideate for product specific needs, and translate archival artwork into relevant new content. Visual Studios illustration is leveraged on a wide range of social expression products and platforms, including greeting cards, gift books, gift wrap and bags, 3D ornament & gift collections, digital solutions including all forms of marketing & promotional material, packaging, and more! In this role, you will work collaboratively, mentored by best-in-class Hallmark creative talent developing your unique style and voice as you bring ideas to life for the Hallmark consumer.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
The following is required to be considered for this role:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a visual creative field, with a graduation date in December 2025, May 2026, December 2026, or May 2027.
- Experience using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and/or InDesign).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Your resume and portfolio will stand out if you have:
- Portfolio images that demonstrate strong conceptual/design skills, trend-focused color palettes, excellent aesthetic judgment, and use of typography and/or hand lettering.
- Portfolio images that demonstrate hand-drawn lettering, innovative typographic solutions, or hand-drawn fonts as part of strong design solutions.
- Portfolio images that demonstrate strong illustration skills with a variety of techniques, styles, subject matter, and application. Proficiency in conventional or digital drawing capabilities.
- Portfolio images that demonstrate ability to apply design and illustration solutions to multiple formats and products.
- Portfolio images that demonstrate any additional tactile skills (such as high-end paper craft, fiber arts, laser, hand embossing, sewing, etc.) or unique use of materials.
- Portfolio images that demonstrate any additional creative and/or technical skills (interactive design, social media, 3D design, conceptual thinking, etc.).
- An eye for trends, including a strong color and fashion sense.
- Self-starter, curious, and willing to learn.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Prior internship experience.
