The Company
Halo Industries, Inc., a spin-out from Stanford University, is a pioneer in manufacturing innovation with light-based technologies. Our proprietary advancements replace traditional processes with novel light-based equivalents, offering higher quality, lower cost, and enhanced functionality. Currently focused on silicon carbide applications (e.g., SiC wafers for power electronics devices), we're rapidly expanding our dynamic team to further improve our process and solve other materials processing challenges.
The Opportunity
As a Laser Process Engineering Manager, you will have the following responsibilities:
- Identify critical competencies required for present and future team members
- Identify skill gaps and development opportunities
- Identify and recruit top engineering talent
- Coach and mentor engineers to support their professional growth and development
- Foster a culture of knowledge-sharing and collaboration within the engineering team
- Develop and maintain a repository of engineering knowledge and best practices
- Facilitate knowledge transfer and cross-functional collaboration
- Identify opportunities for improvement and implement necessary changes
- Stay up-to-date on industry trends and emerging technologies
- Guide experiments to characterize underlying physical effects in novel optical systems
- Use data analysis and simulation to propose design improvements based on experimental results
- Identify causal relationships between observed performance and design parameters
- Interpret empirical data and reconcile it with first principles via analytical and/or numerical simulations
- Summarize and present experimental results to team members
- Work in a team and contribute to the implementation of next-generation industrial semiconductor manufacturing equipment
The ideal candidate is a PhD with 5-10 years of experience (or an MS with 10-15 years of work experience) in Physics, Applied Physics, Optics, or Material Science focusing on the development and experimental application of optical or laser devices and systems. In addition, the candidate would have the following specific qualifications:
- Experience with laser materials processing (e.g. dicing, micromachining, additive manufacturing, etc.)
- Experience with taking a laser process from development to volume production
- Strong understanding of optical physics fundamentals and how they apply to laser materials processing
- Experience with analysis and visualization of experimental data (e.g. JMP, R, Excel, Python notebooks, etc.)
- Experience with managing small teams (<10 people)
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with people at all levels of the organization
- Knowledge of industry standards and best practices
