Mission: Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church is committed to growing active followers of Jesus Christ and building his community.
Purpose: Coordinate programs that minister to children and invite them to follow Jesus Christ .
Accountable to: Director of Next Gen Ministry

Essential Functions:

1. Coordinate ministry with K-5th grade children and families in our church and area in collaboration with the Director of Next Gen Ministry, ensuring children are invited to follow Jesus and grow closer to his community. This ministry may include teaching, large and small groups, mid-week ministries, Sunday School classes, reviewing/selecting/creating curriculum, fundraisers, day camps, Vacation Bible School (VBS), organizing nursery care, and other special events.
2. Provide intentional discipling in child-appropriate ways by supporting, listening to, teaching, encouraging, challenging, inviting, laughing, playing, investing in, and loving children.
3. Engage in contact work with kids and parents outside of programming. This may include meeting with parents and families, attending activities such as sports games or recitals, participating at local school campuses, or otherwise engaging in local community life.
4. Help supervise, align, and empower volunteers and leaders to meaningfully engage in Next Gen Ministry.
5. Cultivate ongoing fluency in the culture of children and families.
6. Administer budgets related to ministry area.
7. Participate in church-wide programming, events, and congregational life.
8. Network with other children’s ministry workers in the area and presbytery.
9. Work with available staff to create and distribute both print and electronic communication such as fliers, calendars, applications, social media postings, information on upcoming events, etc., and keep database updated.
10. Ensure adherence to church policies and create a safe environment for children and families.
11. Be a colleague to the professional staff of the church. Serve on the program staff team and other teams and committees as directed by the Director of Next Gen Ministries. Attendance at evening meetings required.
12. Participate in worship leadership as assigned.
13. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Next Gen Ministries.

  • Demonstrated strong leadership, organization, and communication skills with an ability to work effectively without immediate supervision
  • Passes all the background checks required by HPPC and Washington State for both working with children and performing financial duties. These background checks may be repeated throughout employment.

Environmental & Physical Demands: Must be able to work evenings and weekends as program needs change. Work hours will flex according to seasonal workload. As with any ministry, hours may be irregular and require frequent availability. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must be able to climb stairs, deliver educational presentations, lead outdoor events and high energy games and activities, attend overnight retreats, and occasionally sit or stand for up to three hours. Occasional twisting, bending, squatting, kneeling, and climbing. Must be able to lift up to a maximum of 50 pounds on an occasional basis for program set-ups.

Hours: This is a half-time, exempt, ministerial position, excluded from minimum wage, overtime regulations, and other rights and protections afforded nonexempt workers. This position includes 10 days (40 hours) of vacation per year.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $21.00 per hour
