What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preschool Teacher position at Hamblen Park Preschool?
This teaching position is for 4 days a week from 8:35 AM- 12:35 PM. Actual teaching time is from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM. During the school year, this includes all T/W/TH/F (excluding holidays/non school days that typically align with the SPS calendar) from September through the Thursday before Memorial Day in May.
Essential Duties:
- Provide a caring and structured classroom environment in which students can grow and develop at their own unique pace.
- Plan and execute engaging lessons (in collaboration with coworkers) that align to the curriculum outline: including small group instruction, play-based learning, and whole-class activities.
- Foster learning and growth through developmentally appropriate methods that reach the whole child: physical, emotional, social and intellectual.
- Prepare an environment for students that allows choice during play, active exploration and social interaction.
- Participate and engage in bi-weekly staff meetings, professional development, and Meet the Teacher night
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all personal information with students and families.
- Manage and organize classroom supplies and materials. Communicate with the director when supplies are needed.
- Use the Brightwheel platform to communicate with and involve families in their child’s early learning experience: upload weekly photos, share updates on student learning, and need-to-knows for the classroom community.
- Shared space responsibilities: Clean tables at the end of every day, maintain bulletin boards and room decor, communicate/cooperate with HPPC, clean messes
- With the Preschool Director, participate in a yearly ongoing professional goal setting and evaluation process.
- Have emergency sick day plans prepared at the beginning of the year and in a folder for the Preschool Director/Substitute.
- Read written policies of the Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church and abide by said policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications:
- Education: Preferred Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education, or a related field.
- Valid Early Childhood or Elementary Ed Certification.
- Experience: Preferred teaching and/or care experience for children ages 3-5.
- A working knowledge of significant developments and trends in early childhood education.
- Patience, creativity and passion for working with children.
- Track record of positive relationships with children, families, and co-workers.
- Must pass background checks required by HPPC and WA State for working with children. These background checks may be repeated throughout employment.
