At Hamilton Capital, culture is the cornerstone of how we do business. We trust that an environment that encourages innovation, begins by ensuring employees are comfortable making decisions and taking risks.
We are only as good as our team, which means everyone must have the resources, support, and training needed to succeed. It is through prioritizing and investing in our people that we have been able to build a rare and exceptional team; a team that helps our clients build great financial legacies, so that they may pursue their dreams and influence the people and organizations they love.
In return, we expect a lot from our employees - but not in the way you might assume. We expect you will use your unique voice, talents, and experiences to master your craft. We expect you will believe in our vision, serve others first, and commit to challenging yourself and those around you as we collectively strive for greatness.
Your work here will have profound meaning and impact, not just on our clients, but on our team, and because we take our commitment to you very seriously, we have faith that you will do the same for Hamilton Capital.
About the Position
We are seeking an intellectually curious investment analyst to join and assist our investment team in developing and executing asset class investment research and strategies. This role is for an individual who questions common market views, thinks independently, and wants to collaborate to execute and evolve our proprietary approach to research and investing.
You will work with our investment team to analyze asset classes, risks, market factors, themes, styles, and macroeconomic conditions to inform portfolio decisions. This is not a security analysis or selection role - we focus on asset class and/or risk level research, primarily using funds and managed accounts to execute our views. You will work under the direction of the more senior members of the Investment Management team.
This role offers significant opportunity to impact our research and investment results. You will be part of a team that demands intellectual honesty and humility, as well as rigorous analysis and data-driven challenge and debate over ill-considered risk taking, gut-level instinct, and conventional wisdom. We are thoughtful and dynamic investors with long-term investment horizons, not tactical traders or market technicians.
Attributes of the ideal candidate:
- Seeks to learn, understand, and embrace Hamilton's investment philosophy and methods
- Thrives in a team environment, being personally challenged, and constructively challenging others to get the team to the right answer
- Demonstrates deep curiosity about financial markets and desires to understand how they work in daily practice and extremes, beyond academic understanding
- Independent thinker who enthusiastically questions commonly held views, their own assumptions, and pervasive narratives
- High level of self-awareness with a willingness to admit mistakes and change views when presented with compelling alternative data
- Passion for asset allocation as a means to achieve positive investment outcomes
This role does not involve:
- Bottom-up security analysis focused on picking individual stocks/bonds
- Belief in efficient markets or reliance primarily on traditional academic theory
- Parroting Wall Street or any research at face value, without personal research and critical analysis
- Strong belief in technical analysis and/or short-term tactical strategies
- Frequent trading and/or allocation changes
Position Benefits
- Supportive, innovative culture with an intentional focus on the success of every individual both personally and professionally
- Thought leadership and innovative thinking are valued and rewarded
- Excellent benefits, including a 401(k) Plan with employer contribution, PTO, paid parental leave and more
- Individual and Team Incentive Plans
- Complimentary investment management and financial planning services
Primary Responsibilities
- Research and analyze asset classes, risks, factors, themes, economic data, returns, and other characteristics within equities, fixed income, and alternative investments, as assigned, and make conclusions and recommendations based on that work
- Use Excel, Bloomberg, and other tools to create, review, enhance, and interpret quantitative research frameworks for analyzing asset class behavior, market cycles, and factor relationships.
- Conduct deep-dive research into macro themes, fundamental factors and characteristics, cross-asset relationships, and market structures.
- Build sophisticated Excel models to test hypotheses, produce analytics, and improve our research and asset allocation processes.
- Evaluate and monitor fund managers through both quantitative and qualitative frameworks
- Help implement portfolio allocation changes across different investment vehicles.
- Challenge existing assumptions, debate research, and bring fresh perspectives to improve our investment process.
