The Data Specialist will collect and analyze data at the employee, department, school, and district level in support of data accuracy, data integrity and effective processes. This position will support the development of reports that will support data integrity and sharing of information. The position will also function as the technology administrator/coordinator for the assigned division.
Responsibilities
- Collects and analyzes data at the employee, department, school and district level.
- Seeks to identify inconsistencies within data that impacts reporting and effective processes.
- Serves as the subject matter expert with ensuring data integrity, testing of system changes, report writing, and analyzing data flows for process improvement.
- Partners with Information Technology and Accountability & Research in the development of reports to support data integrity and providing information to internal and external stakeholders. Manages projects and process improvement, including
- ing change management experience to facilitate movement to new levels of quality.
- Identifies potential problems or irregularities and resolves issues in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Supports staff and departments within the division with troubleshooting tasks to solve problem points, data inconsistencies, or process deficiencies within the division.
- Supports division staff with creating data structures and processes that will contribute to data integrity and operating efficiency.
- Uses discretion and adheres to all state laws and district policies when sharing any such information.
- Ensures accuracy of input and output data.
- Pursues professional growth by attending state and district workshops/conferences, keeps abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
- Collaborates to support the creation of a customer-focused climate and helps provide quality services and support to the division, schools, departments and other stakeholders.
- Participates in and conducts professional development.
- Addresses IT related issues for the division staff where feasible and as it pertains to software and technology. .
- Coordinates with HCDE central IT staff for issues that are unable to be resolved within the division or where HCDE central IT staff are needed. Responsible for communications with the IT department, software vendor, and department leadership regarding system performance.
- Conducts staff training for technology related functions where needed or requested; creating associated training materials.
- Collaborates with HCDE central IT staff for rollout of new IT procedures, systems, or equivalent that may affect the division or users/stakeholders of the department.
- Protects confidentiality of records and information.
- Utilizes interpersonal skills when working with various customers and peers to accomplish project goals. Addresses problems in a timely, positive, respectful manner.
- Understands and follows oral and written directives accurately, timely, and with a positive attitude.
- Communicates through the proper channels to keep supervisor and other appropriate personnel informed of impending problems or events of unusual nature.
- Follows established procedures for ensuring assigned areas are safe.
- Creates a customer-focused climate and provides quality services and support to school and other stakeholders.
- Complies with applicable district, state, and federal codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
- Attends work and arrives to work on time.
- Adheres to the Teacher Code of Ethics as defined by Tennessee Law.
- Attends meetings as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge/Education/Experience:
- A minimum of three years of progressive data management experience.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Strong understanding of the new state accountability measures
- Knowledge of enterprise resource planning systems, spreadsheet software and project management systems.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills to deal effectively with students, educators, parents, and community members.

Compensation:
Salary is based on a combination of relevant education and experience.
