Itinerant VI/Braille Paraeducator
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma, demonstrate ability to Braille (complete New Programmed Instruction in Braille or the Library of Congress coursework), demonstrate Braille proficiency, demonstrated experience with special needs students required, ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, community, ability to work/operate independently with minimum guidance, flexibility to accommodate changing situations and ability to follow Visually Impaired teacher plans for students. Ability to learn and demonstrate Braille production with specified technologies. Must be able to travel to various locations on a daily basis.

Intervention and Support Services Supervisor
JOB SUMMARY:
To assist the teacher of students with Blindness/Visual Impairments in the direct instruction of Braille, specific software, and technologies for Blind/Visually impaired.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Braille necessary work for identified student(s).
2. Effectively describe classroom activities and assignments.
3. Be responsible for brailing notes and gathering other classroom materials for distribution to student in timely manner.
4. Assist in materials preparation/production for Braille/large print when requested.
5. Participate in professional development opportunities to advance Braille/technology skills beyond basic levels. Learn skills to create needed tactile graphics. Remain current in computer technologies. Attend yearly professional development opportunities.
6. Operate and assist students/staff in the operation and maintenance of specialized equipment such as Braillers, keyboarding equipment, electronic scanners, and personal computers.
7. Provide Braille output with a variety of Braille systems, including Braille translation software or comparable electronic rapid Braille production systems, and braillewriters.
8. Understand federal and state rules/definitions for students who are Blind/Visually impaired.
9. Work collaboratively with all building staff, classroom teacher(s), parents/guardians, and community-support providers.
10. Adhere to federal, state, and local policies/guidelines as established.
11. Maintain confidentiality.
12. Follow lesson plans/verbal instructions/data collection for the teacher of the visually and/or orientation and mobility instructor.
13. Hold a valid Ohio drivers license and provide own transportation.
14. Demonstrate positive conflict resolution skills in verbal and written communications.
15. Be punctual for meetings, appointments, work and deadlines.
16. Promptly submit billing, mileage, leave requests, etc. by deadline stipulated.
17. Perform other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Shall be appointed to a limited contract with the number of work days established by the employment contract plus extended service based on need. Salary to be established by the Board.
EVALUATION:
Itinerant VI/Braille Paraeducator will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s evaluation policy.
