Summary of Job Duties:
- Implements grounds maintenance program; maintains grounds (e.g., cuts and trims grass, landscapes grounds, removes snow and ice, etc.); operates light to heavy equipment to maintain grounds (e.g., tractors, grass cutting mower, chain saws, edgers, trimmers, snow plow, dump truck, etc.); performs skilled and semi-skilled preventative maintenance repairs on mechanical equipment and machinery; lifts heavy loads in performance of duties.
- Applies specific trade practices to repair, install and maintain building facilities and to perform construction duties; performs semi-skilled maintenance repairs and services (e.g., changes light bulbs, checks roof and makes repairs, etc.); monitors contacts and projects; may supervise assigned work crew in performance of duties; may pick-up parts and make deliveries.
- Assists with preparation of the annual grounds maintenance budget; maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; determines supplies and equipment needed to perform functions; maintains records, reports and other required documentation; communicates with suppliers and vendors.
- Performs duties of co-workers as required or assigned; may travel to various County Facilities to perform duties as assigned.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
- High School Diploma or GED
- three (3) years experience in grounds keeping and commercial mowing
- advanced knowledge of the following:
- grounds keeping duties and equipment
- facilities maintenance techniques, construction materials and tools
- functional supervision
- ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor
- or equivalent combination of training and/or experience

Position Specific Qualifications
- Meet maximum weight requirements for ladders, personal fall protection equipment, and aerial lifts. Maximum lbs. include man and tools. Type 1A “Extra Heavy Duty Industrial Ladder” – maximum capacity of 300 lbs. Type 1AA “Special Duty Industrial Ladder” – maximum capacity of 375 lbs. Most personnel fall arrest equipment (full-body harness & lanyards) is labeled with a capacity limit of 310 lbs. Single Man Lifts – 300-350 lbs.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree in horticulture or related field; training and experience which indicates an advanced knowledge of landscaping design principles and practices, and grounds maintenance.
