JOB OVERVIEW:
The Bailiff Division within the Hamilton County Clerk of Courts oversees the enforcement of court orders and the implementation of policies ensuring safety and order in court operations. Under the supervision of the Assistant Chief Bailiff, the Lieutenant plays a critical leadership role in managing Deputy Bailiffs. This position emphasizes the professional development of Deputy Bailiffs and upholds the division’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of conduct and performance in all bailiff duties and responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
30% FIELD OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT
  • Oversee all field functions of the Bailiff Division, including scheduling and supervision of bailiffs.
  • Evaluate service delivery and compile monthly and yearly statistics.
  • Maintain records on all Clerk of Courts vehicles and ensure compliance with operating procedures and policies.
  • Respond to all field incidents, including auto accidents, firearm and taser discharges, and injuries sustained by Bailiffs.
25% SUPERVISION AND LEADERSHIP
  • Supervise Deputy Bailiffs, providing advanced training and performance evaluations.
  • Enforce disciplinary measures as needed and uphold Local, State, and Federal laws.
  • Assume responsibilities of the Sergeant in their absence and serve as a backup for the Assistant Chief Bailiff as needed.
20% CUSTOMER AND COURT RELATIONS
  • Address questions, requests, and complaints from the general public, Judges, and court staff.
  • Ensure courteous and professional interactions with all contacts.
15% POLICY ENFORCEMENT AND PROCEDURAL COMPLIANCE
  • Adhere to and enforce the Bailiff’s Office Operating Procedure Manual and Clerk’s Office policies and procedures.
  • Support the alignment of field operations with organizational standards and legal requirements.
10% ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
  • Compile and report statistical data for field operations.
  • Manage payroll and ensure workflow efficiency within the Bailiff unit.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent; commission certificate of completion of an O.P.O.T.A. approved peace officer training program or commission certificate of completion of a peace officer training program from a state other than Ohio with a curriculum approved by the Chief Administrator or completion of a forty-hour O.P.O.T.A. approved court officer firearms training program; five (5) years of professional experience in law enforcement; two (2) years in a supervisory role; valid driver’s license with the minimum required liability insurance under State law; firearm and Taser certifications; R.C.I.C. certification; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience demonstrating advanced knowledge of supervisory and law enforcement functions.

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is a sedentary job and the employee will sit 75% of their workday. The employee is expected to use a computer keyboard for extended periods of time and lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
