Summary of Job Duties:
- Plan, coordinate, and direct sustainability goals and projects. Identify, pursue, and secure funding sources including federal, state, and private funds to support sustainability programs, projects, and initiatives. Incorporate equity, inclusion, and environmental justice into sustainability plans, projects, and initiatives. Manage project budgets, formulate work plans, monitor schedules, and report progress. Prepare grant applications and partnership proposals and manage grant compliance. Actively partner with outside agencies, government, and stakeholders to achieve sustainability outcomes.
- Coordinate and assist county departments with development of sustainability action plans and environmental, social, and economic strategies to integrate sustainability practices into their operations. Meet with departmental management teams to increase their understanding of the department’s role and responsibility towards sustainability goals. Ensure the county’s sustainability initiatives are fully incorporated and implemented pertaining to all aspects of department operations. Make recommendations to or advise departmental management teams on the need to potentially modify current policy or procedures to best enable the department to meet sustainability goals.
- Develop and implement comprehensive county sustainability plan and resulting programs and policies to support county sustainability goals and policies. Initiate, manage, and coordinate a variety of sustainability-related projects in and among different county departments. Prepare annual updates of the county’s sustainability plan. Create measurable performance objectives, cost assessments, and tracking methods to measure and analyze sustainability programs for effective sustainability decision-making. Monitor and report on program measures and metrics.
- Perform a variety of research relating to sustainability planning, including the collection and analysis of various data, and evaluation of best practices and policy implications; including (but not limited to) greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) inventories, GHG reduction targets, benefits analysis, electric aggregation programs, energy efficiency assessments, solar energy projects, fleet electrification, and climate resilience assessment and planning. Based on collected data, offer recommendations on how to reduce energy use while reducing emissions. Offer life-cycle assessments and payback analysis for improvements.
- Develop effective communication and engagement strategy in collaboration with the Office of Media and Engagement on sustainability programs, projects, and initiatives. Speak on behalf of and officially represent the county at various public events and meetings as requested; interpret and communicate official position on pertinent sustainability matters; meet with and explain to communities and the general public the programs, projects, and concepts related to the county sustainability programs; and maintain channels of publicity (including website and social media) on the county’s sustainability initiatives in collaboration with the Office of Media and Engagement. Assist with special events and programs to promote and educate the public and county staff about recycling, resource conservation, sustainable energy, resiliency, and pollution prevention issues.

- Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
- Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field.
- (5) Five years’ experience in environmental sciences, environmental policy or business administration or a closely related field
- OR any equivalent combination of training and/or experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.
