Hamilton County Public Health is accepting applications for an Environmental Health Specialist/ Environmental Health Specialist in Training vacancy in the Waste Management Division. The successful candidate will conduct community health inspections to ensure compliance. Requirements include: State of Ohio Registered Environmental Health Specialist or Environmental Health Specialist in Training registration or ability to obtain; Bachelor’s Degree in Science; Valid Driver’s License.
Job Duties include but are not limited to:
- Research and develop a working knowledge of state and local environmental codes.
- Conduct onsite compliance and complaint-based inspections of landfills, tattoo and body piercing establishments, infectious waste, compost facilities and scrap tire businesses.
- Recognize, document, and properly cite violations of environmental codes as appropriate.
- Investigate cases involving lead poisoning in children under six years of age.
- Perform Lead Base Paint Inspections and Risk Assessments, compliance checks and clearances of properties enrolled in the HUD Lead Hazard Reduction grant.
- Respond to citizen complaints involving public health nuisances.
- Collect environmental samples; analyze data; write reports; maintain and update various records.
- Review facility operating plans, issue licenses, and provide technical advice.
- Build relationships, communicate with local government officials, facility operators, consultants, lead abatement contractors and citizens through phone calls, emails, and dialogue in the field.
- Innovate to continuously improve the quality of programs and services.
