The purpose of this job is to work under the direction of the ENL Director to coordinate the implementation of research-based, best practices that support the language acquisition and development of students with limited English proficiency (LEP). The coordinator will implement district and school level student support strategies, be accountable for increasing student outcomes, and responsible for developing and administering professional learning opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates the planning, developing, and implementing of programs, models, and strategies, specific to ENL, to ensure the most effective utilization of resources to support the vision and mission of the school district.
- Coordinates districtwide initiatives regarding English language learner acquisition and instruction including disseminating and receiving information, planning, and implementing professional learning opportunities.
- Develops and implements long and short-term plans, goals, and objectives for assigned area.
- Builds and maintains high expectations for student growth and achievement with English language development.
- Actively participates in the support and classification of ENL students and leads in the planning, coordinating, developing, monitoring, and evaluating the effectiveness of the ENL program.
- Leads staff as appropriate regarding instructional techniques and alignment of practices to meet students needs and improve language acquisition.
- Provides customized professional learning to meet the unique needs of English language learners.
- Assists school staff with the planning and scheduling of support for the academic and instructional needs of English language learners; collaborates with school administration to enhance programs and support for students with limited English proficiency.
- Coordinates a variety of administrative activities to include, but not limited to screening and/or orienting program staff for the purpose of ensuring a positive learning environment and the efficient use of resources within the specified program area.
- Supports implementation and research based, best practices utilizing curricula and platforms related to ENL direct and indirect services.
- Partners with staff to implement and train language proficiency testing utilizing WIDA Screener, MODEL, and ACCESS for students that qualify for English Language Development (ELD) programs.
- Identifies program needs to include, but not limited to instructional materials and equipment.
- Creates a customer-focused climate and provides quality services and support to schools and other stakeholders.
- Leads district and site level committees for the purpose of collaboration for academic instruction and to obtain input to maximize program effectiveness.
- Leads and designs workshops, trainings, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions regarding English language learners.
- Establishes ENL New Teacher Network and maintains regular contact with beginning ENL Specialists.
- Prepares a variety of reports and written materials to document activities and growth of English language learners within established guidelines.
- Recommends budget expenditures to address curricular, equipment and supply requirements to implement quality instructional programs.; ensures school sites have access to high quality instructional materials, equipment, and supplies.
- Researches, analyzes, and implements pilot projects and programs for the purpose of providing the most effective best-practices in program for students.
- Responds to inquiries from school personnel to provide information, assistance and/or direction related to language acquisition and instruction.
- Communicates through the proper channels to keep supervisor and other appropriate personnel informed of impending problems or events of unusual nature.
- Coordinates daily work activities; organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with staff, assists with complex problem situations, and provides technical guidance and expertise to address problems in assigned area.

- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of ENL programming.
Qualifications
Knowledge/Education/Experience:
- Master’s Degree in education, TESOL, or related fields required.
- Five (5) years proven work experience in teaching, planning, directing programs and supports for students with limited English proficiency. Or, any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
- Three (3) years successful experience with leading district level initiatives.
- Experience as a Lead ESL teacher preferred.
- Experience creating and leading professional development.
- Valid ESL Tennessee teaching license.

Compensation:
Salary is based on a combination of relevant education and experience.
