Harrison Bay Future Ready Center serves students from  Central and Ooltewah High Schools, along with a lottery enrollment for incoming out-of-zone freshmen interested in the Institute of Architecture and Engineering Design or Institute of Advanced Manufacturing.

 

Effective teaching at Harrison Bay Future Ready Center  is facilitating student-centered work that is balanced by both rigor and love and is supported by a strong classroom culture and high expectations. 

Our academic program is based upon our Cornerstones.

 

  1. Curiosity 

We intentionally plan for student learning in both the short and long term. This is demonstrated through rigorous lesson plans that provide an engaging hook that supports curiosity. 

 

  • Collaboration 

We have a strong belief in the spirit of collaboration at HBFRC  to foster a spirit of collective efficacy among teachers and students. We foster this belief by intentionally providing students to work in flexible cooperative learning groups that brings together mixed ability levels to reinforce learning. 

 

  • Career Readiness 

Literacy is the primary driver of student success. In order to build passionate readers and writers who are “ready for college, ready for life” we offer embedded literacy practice in all content areas. 

 

  • Innovative Thinking 

Innovative  Thinking can be thought of as a result of a creative process, ending up with a new and improved product or service. Because we believe in a growth mindset, we challenge our students to not settle for traditional approaches to learning but to think outside of the proverbial box.

 

  • Continuous Reflection and Refinement 

Our idea of continuous reflection and refinement  is rooted in setting up challenges for our students that are rigorous, robust and conquerable; it is rooted in allowing failure and then delineating a path to success.

 

 


Responsibilities

  1. Teaching & Learning - Deeply understand the Tennessee Science Standards and establish clear learning targets for every lesson.  Build rigorous and aligned assessments and consistently engage students with science and engineering practices (SEPs).  Follow Hamilton County Schools’ instructional framework, including: 
    • Ensuring Equity in Actions 
    • Setting High Expectations
    • Building a Productive Classroom Culture 
    • Responsive Teaching and Learning 
  2. Classroom Culture: Build a safe and productive classroom culture.  Positive relationships are evident, procedures are clear, and the classroom is safe and secure for learning to unfold. Student and teacher interactions promote a growth mindset. 
  3. Family & Community:  Consistently develop strong relationships with students’ families while diligently informing parents of expectations, positive news, and/or concerns about their children.  Provide opportunities for parents to be involved in their children’s learning. 
  4. Professional Responsibilities: Actively participates in professional learning communities (PLCs) with colleagues in order to improve teaching and student learning.  Reflect on instruction and leadership while contributing ideas, expertise, and time to the mission and goals of the school.

Qualifications

  • Committed to high academic achievement and high expectations for all students
  • Able to be a positive team-player and communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, students, and families
  • Open to being coached and receiving feedback in order to advance learning and growth for students
  • Professional with high personal standards and integrity
  • Teaching candidate must hold a valid state of Tennessee teaching certification in 6-12 Science or be an an upcoming graduate in an accredited teacher preparation program. If you hold a teaching license in another state, you must apply for a Tennessee teaching license. 
  • Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree.

 

Compensation

Salary is based on a combination of relevant education and experience.

Salary Scale

 

 

This position may be eligible for an increase in total compensation. The Differentiated Compensation Plan applies to designated schools and hard-to-staff positions. Please see https://www.hcde.org/staff/human_resources/differentiated_compensation for more details.

Salary : $44,600 - $56,500
