The purpose of this job is to coordinate parent volunteer activities for ELA's diverse population.
East Lake Academy of Fine Arts is a 6-8 magnet school located in Chattanooga, TN. We are a community school and offer a wide range of activities before and after school for our students including aquaponics and Tech Goes Home. We work on building capacity and preparing future leaders for promotion opportunities.
We support our teachers through a new teacher mentor program with informal support and feedback. We have monthly opportunities for professional development including technology, classroom management, and curriculum planning. Our teachers enjoy stipends for extra planning before and after school and on weekends.
We are looking for teachers who take initiative and who are coachable, flexible, student-focused, collaborative, and team players.
Responsibilities
- Acts in a professional, respectful, and welcoming manner at all times.
- Creates a customer-focused climate and provides quality services and support to school and other stakeholders.
- Complies with applicable district, state, and federal codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
- Coordinates the planning, developing, and implementing of programs, policies, and procedures for assigned areas to ensure the most effective utilization of resources to support the vision and mission of the school district.
- Creates a customer-focused climate and provides quality services and support to schools and other stakeholders.
- Coordinates daily work activities; organizes, prioritizes, and monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work.
- Develops and implements long and short term plans, goals, and objectives for assigned area.
- Follows established procedures for ensuring assigned areas are safe.
- Communicates through the proper channels to keep supervisor and other appropriate personnel informed of impending problems or events of unusual nature.
- Coordinates the parent volunteer program to increase parent participation in the overall school program.
- Develops a system to document volunteer hours.
- Communicates effectively and consistently with parents, teachers and administration to identify and publish ongoing volunteer activities and opportunities.
- Prepares reports and newsletters as directed by the principal.
- Supports school-wide activities and events that involve parents.
- Communicates through the proper channels to keep supervisor and other appropriate personnel informed of impending problems or events of unusual nature.
- Follows established procedures for ensuring assigned areas are safe.
- Works collaboratively with school staff, students, parents, and other stakeholders.
- Attends work and arrives to work on time.
- Maintains confidentiality.
- Adheres to the Teacher Code of Ethics as defined by Tennessee Law.
- Complies with accounting and financial policies and procedures, as well as other Board policies.
- Use computers and other technology to enter and access information related to essential job functions.
- May operate a motor vehicle to conduct various work activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge/Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience coordinating activities preferred; any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills to deal effectively with students, educators, Board members, parents, and community members.
- Demonstrates the ability to create opportunities for parents and others to be involved in volunteer projects and activities.
- Demonstrates the ability to engage parents and community members in volunteer projects and activities.
- Demonstrates the ability to create systems to maintain information about volunteer activities.
Compensation:
Salary is based on a combination of relevant education and experience.

Salary : $39,000 - $49,400
