The Hamilton County Health Department has a responsibility to respond quickly and efficiently when public health emergencies occur. All Hamilton County Health Department employees are responsible for ensuring their contact information is current and they are accessible should a public health emergency arise. The Hamilton County Health Department maintains a call down system to store contact information and mobilize staff in the event of an emergency. During a public health emergency, all staff are required to respond should a call to mobilize be made. During a public health emergency, work hours for any and all Hamilton County Health Department employees are subject to modification to meet the needs of the community.
Under general supervision, locates, contacts, and refers people who need medical attention related to exposure to communicable diseases (CD’s). Provides intervention, prevention, and education related to preventable disease transmission, including HIV/AIDS, STD, TB, and/or immunization/vaccination. Assesses Ryan White eligibility.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Health, Nursing, Health Education, Social Work, or a closely related field and one (1) year of experience in a related field. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Certification for a Disease Intervention Specialist and CPR Certification must be obtained within 3 months of date of hire.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work requires irregular working hours in high-risk environments including exposure to mentally ill and unstable individuals and exposure to air, water, and blood borne pathogens related to the transmission of STD’s or from contagious diseases preventable by immunization. May assist with routine lab work such as blood draws and specimen collection; occasional contact with infectious diseases.
