JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Teacher’s Aide in the Accelerated Credit Center plays a vital role in assisting classroom teachers with day-to-day instructional and supervisory responsibilities. This includes working directly with students, helping manage classroom behavior, and supporting the use of educational technology tools. The aide also supports schoolwide routines such as student arrival and dismissal, lunchroom and recess supervision, and bus duty. This position requires patience, flexibility, strong communication skills, and a willingness to work 1:1 or in small groups with students needing academic or behavioral interventions.
JOB GOAL:
To support the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students in an Alternative Learning Environment by assisting teachers with instruction, supervision, and intervention. The aide will help ensure a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment, while also providing technical assistance to students using Chromebooks and digital instructional platforms such as Edgenuity.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma with at least 60 college hours or Associate Degree or have passed the ParaPro Praxis Assessment.
- Demonstrates competence for assigned responsibilities.
- Typing ability preferred.
- Possesses positive interpersonal relations skills.
- Commitment to the importance of confidentiality of records.
- Evidence of a strong commitment to quality desegregated education.

- Basic proficiency with Chromebooks, educational software, and digital learning tools such as Edgenuity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Assist the classroom teacher with instructional activities and classroom management.
- Work 1:1 or in small groups with students who need additional academic or behavioral support.
- Support students using Chromebooks and educational platforms, including Edgenuity, ensuring students can access and navigate instructional content.
- Supervise students during non-classroom times such as lunch, recess, arrival, dismissal, and bus transitions.
- Monitor student progress during independent or online learning and provide encouragement and redirection as needed.
- Help implement behavioral support strategies and interventions as directed by teachers or counselors.
- Prepare instructional materials and assist with classroom organization as needed.
- Report student concerns, progress, or incidents to the classroom teacher or administrator promptly.
- Foster a supportive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned that contribute to the overall safety and function of the ALE program.
- Participates in in-services, staffing, faculty meetings, etc.
- Completes daily work schedules as assigned.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

Mental Functions, Physical Requirements, and Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, go up and down stairs, operate foot and hand controls, use a telephone, and write. Occasionally, the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational materials and/or objects, and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year.
