Job Description:
The Virtual Learning 6-12 Digital Learning instructor is responsible for providing instructional support to students enrolled in the Little Rock School District Virtual Academy, Accelerated Learning Center, and Hamilton Learning Academy Distance Learning students. The instructor will guide students through coursework on the Edgenuity platform, ensuring they remain engaged, make adequate progress, and receive the necessary support to succeed.
This position requires monitoring student progress, communicating with students and parents, tracking attendance, and implementing interventions for students who are struggling or falling behind. The instructor must be proficient in technology, willing to learn Edgenuity, and utilize best practices for virtual instruction to create a supportive and effective online learning environment.
Job Goal:
The certified instructor evaluates and assesses student performance for assigned subject(s) through a virtual instructional platform in the academic subject area assigned to help students fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. The instructor meets with parents, interprets student progress, and academic achievement, informs parents about student strengths and weaknesses, and assists in other programs as assigned.
The goal of the Digital Learning Instructor is to ensure student success by providing structured support, monitoring progress, and implementing interventions that keep students engaged and on track in their online coursework. By fostering a positive and interactive virtual learning environment, the instructor will help students achieve academic success while developing independence and digital literacy skills.Such alternatives and additions to the above qualifications may be deemed appropriate by the Superintendent and supported by the Board.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field.
- Valid Arkansas teaching certification.
- Experience with online learning platforms (Edgenuity experience preferred).
- Strong technology skills and ability to adapt to virtual learning tools.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to develop relationships and maintain consistent contact with students, parents, and colleagues in a virtual environment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of core academic subject assigned.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of curriculum and instructional best practices for online learning
- Strong knowledge of technology troubleshooting strategies
- Strong knowledge of web applications/tools and video conferencing best practices

Virtual instructor Duties

Instructional Support & Student Engagement
- Guide and support students as they complete coursework in Edgenuity.
- Provide feedback on student progress and assist with understanding course material.
- Implement virtual classroom best practices to enhance student learning.

Progress Monitoring & Communication
- Track student progress within Edgenuity and ensure they are meeting course expectations.
- Regularly communicate progress updates with students, parents, and guardians.
- Schedule and conduct virtual meetings or phone conferences as needed.

Attendance & Intervention
- Monitor student attendance and engagement in online coursework daily.
- Identify students who are struggling or not making progress and implement appropriate interventions.
- Provide additional support through tutoring, small group instruction, or one-on-one check-ins during office hours.
Mental Functions, Physical Requirements, and Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, go up and down stairs, operate foot and hand controls, use a telephone and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational materials and/or objects, and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year. Additional technical skills, knowledge, and abilities may be recommended by immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
