About the Role


Hamilton-Madison House (HMH) is the leading provider of behavioral health services for New York City’s Asian community and the second largest provider in the country. HMH serves nearly 1,000 community members through a comprehensive program model that understands and incorporates the strengths of individual cultures and addresses the stigma related to mental illness. Services range from psychological services; personalized recovery-oriented services for individuals with mental illness; recovery programming for addiction in six languages and seven dialects; supportive housing for people with mental health issues; and training and internship opportunities for graduate students in social work, mental health counseling, and psychology. Our team of over 40 full-time and 16 part-time staff speak Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Cambodian.  


The Clinical Coordinator will take the lead in developing and implementing a dedicated project aimed at improving access to mental health care for Asian Youth & Young Adults (A&YAs) and their families, a group historically underserved in behavioral health services. This project will focus on identifying barriers to care, enhancing cultural competence in service delivery, and creating and conducting targeted outreach efforts. The Clinical Coordinator will also collaborate with community organizations, schools, and healthcare providers to ensure that mental health resources are effectively reaching this high-need population. 

In addition, the Clinical Coordinator will be a key contact for patients entering HMH’s behavioral health programs, managing the pre-admission and admission process. This is a key new leadership role involving coordination with stakeholders encompassing initial consultations, intake assessments, liaison with divisional and agency leadership such as the Medical Director, Administrative Manage, and Program Directors, as well as community-based organizations and regulatory agencies to ensure timely and appropriate service referrals. The Clinical Coordinator will provide one-on-one navigation support to both new and existing patients, ensuring seamless intake appointments with program directors.


*This is a 1 year grant funded position with the possibility of a second year extension*

Key Responsibilities:

  • Creating policies and procedures to address the needs of A&YAs (e.g., parental/guardian consent, intake forms)
  • Work with Training Director to provide training and supervision related to A&YA population’s treatment modalities (e.g. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT); Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT); Interpersonal Therapy (IPT); Child Life and Creative Arts Therapy; Family Therapy; and Trauma-Informed Care). 
  • Build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders such as schools, hospitals, mental health clinics, social services and housing staff, and faith-based organizations to facilitate referrals and enhance outreach.
  • Supervise Outreach & Community Health Worker, together conduct outreach to Asian Youth and Young Adults (A&YAs) and their families by attending community events, school meetings, and visiting local gathering places (e.g., grocery stores, civic group, nail salons).
  • Leverage internal resources by seeking referrals from HMH’s Youth Development and Community Outreach departments, as well as from our network of 37 sister settlement houses across NYC.
  • Assist in the development and execution of social media campaigns to reach potential clients and raise awareness about services.
  • Provide education and training in the community for parents/guardians of A&YAs and extended family (as appropriate). This will occur during outreach efforts as well as individual family sessions and small group sessions.   
  • Serve as the initial contact for patients seeking behavioral health services, conducting pre-admission consultations, screenings and intakes with patients, families, and referral sources, etc.
  • Coordinate the intake assessment process and facilitate the connection between patients and appropriate behavioral health programs.
  • Facilitation of referrals to community-based services for further support when needed.
  • Maintain accurate collaborative and compliant documentation that meets OMH, DOHMH and HMH expectations. Maintain accurate and complete records as required. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • LMHC, LMSW, LCSW, PhD, PsyD, or licensed professional in a related field
  • Minimum of 1 years of post-graduate clinical experience
  • Bilingual fluency required, with a preference for proficiency in languages spoken within NYC’s Asian communities
  • Demonstrated cultural proficiency and experience working with diverse communities, especially in urban, underserved areas
  • Experience working with Asian Youth & Young Adults (A&YAs) and their families
  • In-depth knowledge of Lower East Side community resources and mental health service providers
  • Proficiency in screening, assessment, and treatment planning for common mental health and substance use disorders
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to racial and social justice, with an understanding of equity issues in healthcare
  • Ability to balance patient care and administrative duties in a high-demand clinical setting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and electronic medical records (EMR) software; willingness to learn new systems as needed


Compensation: $60,000 to $70,000 depending on education and experience

Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours/week 

Excellent benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 15 vacation days, 12 sick days, 3 personal days, and 12 paid agency-wide holidays.  Depending on the role, HMH offers a flexible work schedule
