JOB SUMMARY
Performs scope and equipment cleaning and sterilization of endoscopes consistent with approved standards. Is knowledgeable of scopes and the proper use of all sterilization equipment, Can assess and trouble shoot the Steris equipment and the scopes. . Able to assemble and process peel packing of extra instrumentation. Understands the guidelines of Joint Commission, CMS and SGNA standards of Infection Control. Makes sure that all endoscopes water bottles have been sent down to Central Sterile for reprocessing per manufactures directions. Performs all duties and maintains all standards in accordance with company policies and procedures. Must have the knowledge to train staff and also do competency checks as needed with all Staff. Must be knowledgable in regards to cleaning agents used in the reprocessing scope room. Must maintain a reprocessing log for all scopes. Must maintain a log for Cidex use following appropriate guidelines. Must keep a log of all scopes and scope repairs.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School graduate or equivalent.
Licensure: Central Sterile Certification Required
Experience: One year experience as a Central Sterile Tech I or completion of a Central Sterile Program. Knowledge of Endoscope.
Skills: Manual dexterity to handle multitude of endoscopy instruments. Good interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians and associates throughout the organization in order to provide excellent care and maintain effective working relationships. Must be able to have scopes available for patient procedure in a timely manner in order to maintain scheduled procedure times and turn over times.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed indoors in a controlled environment requiring adherence to proper PPEs. Working conditions include limited exposure to chemical agents used in the sterilization process. Must have knowledge in the area of bloodborne pathogens/ communicable diseases. Prolonged periods of standing and limited lifting, stooping and bending is required. Requires exposure to body fluids. Must have the ability to tolerate rapid turnover and high census.
