JOB SUMMARY
Directs and oversees the operations of Laboratory Services across the system, coordinates with the Laboratory Directors to manage staff, budgets, quality control, compliance with regulations, and ensures the accurate and timely delivery of laboratory testing services, while also collaborating with other departments within the system. Responsible for the overall leadership and strategic planning of Laboratory Services within the system. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served. Must demonstrate knowledge of age-dependent expected values and access data reflective of the patients' current status in relation to their age-specific needs.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelors degree in Medical Technology or one of the natural sciences or equivalent experience required, masters degree in a related field preferred.
Licensure: Current certification as a Medical Technologist, ASCP or equivalent. Must maintain current certification throughout employment at Hamilton System. Must meet requirements for Technical Supervisor as specified by CLIA. Must meet Tennessee and Georgia State Laws of licensure for clinical laboratories.
Experience: Eight years of leadership experience required in a highly complex Laboratory.
Skills: Exhibit excellent managerial and interpersonal skills. A self-motivated individual with excellent communication, problem solving and organizational skills. Ability to obtain and interpret pertinent information in terms of the patients needs that are age-appropriate. Ability to select proper instrumentation / supplies appropriate for age group of patient served. Demonstrates consistent ability to perform clinical skills necessary in the care and treatment of a variety of ages in patients, particularly focusing on the neonate, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS
May be exposed to disease-bearing specimens, hazardous chemicals and fumes and other hazards normally associated with clinical laboratory setting. May be required to work evenings or weekends to meet deadlines. Subject to administrative call, which requires availability 24 hrs/day and is subject to call-back when situation warrants. Minimum bending, standing and stooping required. Some lifting, good phone skills and ability to hear pager.
