JOB SUMMARY
Provides direct patient care under the direction of the Clinical Director. Working autonomously, the RN accepts responsibility and accountability for assigned patients to, evaluate the care for the inpatient diabetic, and provide education and support to the patients we serve. The RN assists in coordinating patient care efforts with appropriate plan of patient care in conjunction with Medical and Clinical staff. The RN will participate in work groups and teams, encouraging the participation of education in current best practice standards of diabetes care. The RN works within the State Practice Act and follows all hospital policies and procedures.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduate of an accredited Associate School of Nursing. Baccalaureate School of Nursing (BSN) degree required.
Certifications: Current BLS required. Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) certification preferred (required within two years of employment)
Licensure: Current RN license as evidence by primary source of verification.
Experience: Two years of clinical experience in medical surgical nursing or critical care environment. Previous teaching skills and knowledge of diabetic disease process preferred.
Skills: Nursing skills as defined in the Law Governing the Practice of Nursing in Georgia. Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with physicians, administrative and clinical staff to achieve Diabetes program goals and objectives. Excellent communication, presentation and organizational skills. Comfortable with public speaking within the organization and outside the organization at community events. Must be a self-starter with a high degree of accountability and follow through.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Works in office and acute health care setting with adult, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients experiencing a wide range of medical problems. Requires flexible work schedule to include some weekends, may receive emergent calls after normal working hours. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.
