Hamilton Memorial Hospital District has an immediate need for a full-time Environmental Technician. At HMHD our mission is to enhance the delivery of healthcare to our community and the surrounding area by providing accessible quality healthcare services.
Pay Scale: $15.30-$20.23 per hour
Essential Functions:
Environmental Technicians must have the ability to provide a clean environment and linens for the staff and patients of Hamilton Memorial Hospital District. Environmental Services is performed within the Support Services Department and shall operate as a team. When one area needs assistance, those working in other areas shall be responsible for ensuring the whole job is completed. Support Services are an important part of ensuring patients receive complete quality care.
Position Responsibilities:
· Cleans all floors, walls, windows, and other surfaces in the Hospital District.
· Take out trash and biohazard trash and operate the compactor.
· Operates all environmental services equipment in a safe, orderly, and efficient
manner.
· Cleans environmental services equipment at the end of every shift.
· Completes department records as required by management.
· Attends in-services and other meetings as required by management.
· Assist in passing meal trays as needed.
· Stocks areas with clean linens and takes all dirty linen to bins.
· Perform one-on-one psychiatric sitter’s duties when needed.
· Recognize your role as part of the QAPI efforts at HMHD.
· Carry out QAPI roles and responsibilities as assigned.
· Follow established policies and procedures in support of QAPI efforts.
· Support the Just Culture concept and its use to improve patient safety.
Qualifications:
Education: No education necessary.
Training and Experience: Previous experience in hospital or hotel housekeeping
preferred. Must have the ability to become competent in essential functions within 2 to 3
months.
Job Knowledge: Must have the ability to read, write and speak effectively. Must be
able to count and follow simple instructions. Sufficient strength to push carts and lift
bulky items.
Equipment Used: Commercial washer, dryer, laundry cars, hot stamper, mop, broom,
dust pan, chemical/detergent dispensers, commercial carpet vacuum and sweeper,
carpet extractors, floor scrubbers/buffers.
Working Conditions:
Physical and Mental Efforts: Extensive and constant physical effort, including
continuous standing, stooping, pushing, and walking. Lifting of light to moderate objects
frequently during working hours. Most objects are less than 40 pounds. Ability to
perform simple manipulative skills such as folding linens/clothing, opening trash bags
and lining trash containers, filling chemical cleaning containers. Ability to maintain an
attention span in task/function for 20-30 minutes at a time.
Environmental and Working Conditions: Works in all areas of Hamilton Memorial
Hospital District including the Clinics and the Senior Enrichment Center. Outdoor work
may be required. Subject to hazards associated with such facilities. Including
hazardous wastes and encountering infectious diseases. Works in an environment that
includes housekeeping and laundry cleaning chemicals, soiled linen and clothing, and
lint. Exposed to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids in the work areas
including the laundry and other patient care areas. These items will require special
precautions while handling.
