What are the responsibilities and job description for the Roofing Surveyor position at Hamilton Roofing?
Job Summary:
- The Roofing Surveyor physically inspects roofing for defects and to assess service work orders. They visit sites to determine the level of any damage and advise on how best to fix it. They complete detailed reports, specifications and building surveys; identify defects and advise on repair, maintenance, and restoration options. They create a proposal for the job, taking into consideration the scope of the service required, the materials that will be needed, as well as approximate man-hours and costs. They complete projects on time and within budget, while ensuring that roofing teams work in safe conditions. They work closely with the Superintendent to ensure job is progressing as planned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None, however, they may provide direction.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Schedules incoming work orders with customers for roofing surveys, repairs, and/or re-roof estimates.
- Physically inspects roofs to assess the scope of and materials required for a particular job.
- Checks properties to ensure they meet building regulations, and fire, health, and safety standards.
- Advises on energy efficiency or environmental impacts.
- Creates a bid/proposal for a particular job and delivers it to a customer.
- Creates man-days form for each sold service job.
- Works with Service Manager to schedule sold and scoped service jobs. Reviews all contracts before execution, comparing it with the proposal and estimate and flaging discrepancies.
- Reviews and prepares all service billing paperwork.
- Communicates with customers with active jobs on a daily basis, and also informs them of all services available through Crowther Roofing.
- Completes job packets for office use.
- Reviews all job packets and finalizing them as required.
- Reviews ongoing jobs and strives to complete them within labor and materials budgets.
- Inspects completed job to ensure that the final products meets customer needs and is properly installed.
- Assists estimators on reroofs by attending pre-bid meetings, obtaining measurements/drawings, performing test-cuts, and providing jobsite photos.
- Provides re-roof information to estimators and operations on sold jobs.
- Designs and provides proposals for re-roofing scopes of work.
- Ensures customer satisfaction with follow-up calls.
- Provides field/roofing expertise to sales team.
- Attents Roof Check Inspections as required and assists in approval of Roof Check Inspection Reports and Renewals.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Experienced with all Microsoft Office Products, particularly MS Project.
- Ability to write specifications and contracts.
- Extensive knowledge of roofing, including BUR, Shingles, Tile, single ply, metal.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum requirements: must be a High School graduate or have conmensurate work experience.
- Must speak, read, and write in English, Spanish language a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Fieldwork involves working outdoors in all types of weather and standing for extended periods while doing inspections.
- Able to climb ladders or stairs to reach roofing job sites.
- Must be able to work in temperatures ranging from 35 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Able to withstand loud noises.
- Understanding of the risk of airborne particles of asbestos or dust.
- Understanding of the risk of electrical shock from improper procedures.
- Must wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, and hearing protection while on the job site.
- Exposure to flammables and potentially hazardous substances.
