What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operational Risk VP position at Hamlyn Williams?
Our financial services client is hiring a Vice President of Operational Risk to support risk oversight using the first and second line of defense oversight across all business units and contribute to quality assurance within the second line of defense. This is a high-impact role combining advisory, governance, and review responsibilities in a dynamic risk management environment.
The ideal candidate is a risk professional with a deep understanding of legal, regulatory, and in-business risk, and experience advising senior stakeholders on the implementation of enterprise-wide risk frameworks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the 2LOD risk advisor to the Legal and CCO functions, providing credible challenge and oversight on risk identification, assessment, control testing, and issue remediation
- Lead and support operational risk activities including RCSA facilitation, incident root cause analysis, KRI development, and risk event documentation
- Participate in governance forums and senior leadership committees, ensuring ORM perspectives are effectively represented
- Conduct quality assurance reviews to assess adherence to risk frameworks and validate documentation of controls and remediation actions
- Collaborate with subject matter experts in Technology, InfoSec, Third Party Risk, and Project Risk to support comprehensive risk oversight
- Contribute to ongoing enhancements of the operational risk framework, reporting tools, and stakeholder education
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in operational risk, enterprise risk, legal/compliance, internal audit, or quality assurance within financial services
- Strong working knowledge of the three lines of defense model and regulatory expectations for financial market utilities or similar institutions
- Excellent communication, judgment, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Proficiency in tools such as Archer GRC, Power BI, Tableau, or other reporting platforms is a plus
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or certifications in risk, audit, or compliance are advantageous
