What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vice President Controller position at Hamlyn Williams?
We are partnered with an exciting & fast-growing Financial Services Organization. They are looking to grow their Accounting team by adding a Controller.
This is a hybrid opportunity outside the Manhattan office.
Key Responsibilities:
- General Ledger & Asset Accounting: Manage Oracle NetSuite accounts, ensuring timely monthly closes, portfolio valuations, capital activities, and investor inquiries.
- Chart of Accounts: Maintain accurate financial transaction structures for reporting.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Develop annual budgets, forecasts, cost analyses, and provide variance reporting.
- Cash Management: Oversee cash flow, liquidity projections, disbursements, and funding needs.
- Accounts Payable: Supervise AP workflows using Tipalti or similar tools.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance internal controls, reporting systems, and financial processes.
- Compliance: Ensure adherence to GAAP, tax laws, and financial regulations; liaise with internal tax teams and third-party consultants.
- Audit Management: Lead external audits and internal control assessments.
- Team Leadership: Mentor and coordinate junior finance professionals.
- Additional Support: Collaborate with tax teams, prepare financial statements, reconciliations, and various accounting deliverables.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience: 10 years in public/private accounting; Big Four and/or financial services industry preferred (lending, asset management, insurance, etc.).
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of investment accounting, U.S. GAAP, and inventory accounting processes (valuation, reporting, reconciliation).
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance; CPA/CFA preferred
- Leadership: 9 years of progressive financial management experience, including 3 years in a managerial role.
- Systems: Proficiency in Excel; experience with Oracle NetSuite and Tipalti preferred. Ability to adapt to new systems.
- Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, communication, and collaboration; ability to drive initiatives and manage multiple stakeholders.
