Our Banking client is seeking a Senior Credit Underwriter (VP) to join its dynamic Credit team. This critical role involves providing detailed credit risk analysis to support relationship-driven loan requests from their C&I and CRE teams. The Senior Credit Underwriter will primarily emphasize work with TRANSITIONAL OR BRIDGE LOANS. , handling the bank’s most complex transactions and contributing to the portfolio's overall credit quality.
Key Responsibilities:
The Senior Credit Underwriter will be responsible for:
- Conducting comprehensive financial and credit risk analyses for complex loan requests, including evaluation of borrower financials, projections, market trends, management strength, and environmental factors.
- Prepare and present clear, risk-focused credit proposals highlighting key risks and mitigating factors for approval by the relevant authority.
- Collaborating with Lending Officers to ensure complete and timely submission of borrower information, including financial statements. The role may involve attending client meetings and site visits as needed.
- Demonstrating a solid understanding of compliance requirements, banking regulations, and internal commercial lending policies and documenting any policy exceptions with appropriate justifications.
- Addressing inquiries from approval authorities promptly and effectively, ensuring clarity in responses.
- Participating actively in the Credit Committee and other relevant meetings, offering insights and recommendations.
- Providing oversight and mentorship to junior credit underwriters, fostering their development and growth within the team.
- Assisting in preparing monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc reports as required.
- Supporting audits and regulatory examinations by gathering and providing necessary documentation.
Key Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in credit underwriting, preferably within a banking environment, focusing on Commercial & Industrial (C&I) lending, and Commercial Real Estate (CRE Lending) focusing on TRANSITIONAL OR BRIDGE LOANS.
- Strong analytical and financial modeling skills, with the ability to assess complex transactions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
- Outstanding interpersonal and collaboration skills, committed to integrity and teamwork.
- A track record of mentoring and developing less experienced team members.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and a willingness to learn core database management systems.
