The Cold Glass Technician is responsible for the precise cutting, grinding, polishing, and drilling of glass at Hammerton, ensuring all products meet established quality standards. The role involves the setup and operation of various coldworking tools and equipment and the interpretation of technical drawings to confirm product specifications. The technician will work onsite to maintain production equipment and contribute to continuous improvement processes.
Essential Duties and Job Responsiblities:
- Perform cutting, grinding, polishing, and drilling operations on various types of glass using specialized tools and equipment.
- Set up and operate equipment in the glass coldworking shop, including saws and drill presses, safely and efficiently.
- Set up and utilize jigs to create and test finished glass pieces, ensuring adherence to specifications.
- Participate in daily and weekly cleanup activities to ensure proper maintenance and operation of tools and machines.
- Utilize technical drawings to verify glass specifications and conduct fit tests.
- Crosstrain in basic warm glass processes, such as sandblasting and drilling holes in flat glass.
- Accurately enter glass inventory transactions, report failures, and perform inventory counts using an MRP system.
- Use kanban boards to prioritize incoming glass and outgoing orders effectively.
- Identify and communicate opportunities for improvement, assisting in their implementation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- This position requires onsite work.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Familiarity with glass quality standards and manufacturing processes desired.
- Experience with MRP systems and kanban boards for inventory management desired.
